Jungkook always felt as if he was left behind.

He was the last person in his friend group that was in high school; Taehyung and Jimin graduated three years ago. He couldn't drink or go to clubs with his friends, was never allowed to go to the dorm parties the others went to.

Sometimes, he wasn't even allowed to hang out with his friends at all. They were always too busy for him, especially Taehyung.

Kim Taehyung was the love of Jungkook's life. Ever since they met when Jungkook was thirteen, the boy had grown to love Taehyung and everything that came with him.

It didn't matter that Taehyung had a temper. It didn't matter that he was a little on the wild side and liked to live dangerously. All that mattered was all the good he possessed, all the love he gave to his friends and family. All the good in him made the bad unimportant.

But Taehyung's boyfriend, Jung Hoseok, definitely mattered.

Jungkook couldn't find it in himself to ever hate Hoseok or hold any feelings of resentment towards him; he loved the older boy like a brother and only wanted the best for him. They had been friends for a long time, longer than Taehyung was even aware of.

But that didn't mean Jungkook's heart hurt any less.

It was agony to see them interact during their high school days, so caught up in each other that they sometimes forgot Jungkook was even there with them. It hurt to see the boy he loved for so long fall for someone that wasn't him, that would never be him.

Taehyung always said he liked older guys, and Hoseok was two years older than him (Taehyung skipped a few grades because of how smart he was, Jimin, too). Jungkook always knew that never would there be a day where Taehyung would walk up to him and ask him on a date. The boy was too immature in the older's eyes; he needed someone to keep him grounded. Jungkook knew he could never be that for his love.

So, he kept it all inside, kept everything bottled up. Loving silently was better than being rejected by the love of his life.

"Hey, Jungkookie!" Taehyung said happily as his friend hopped into his car after shoving his backpack in the trunk.

Jungkook gave him a small smile while he buckled in, cherishing the feeling of the older boy's fingers in his hair for that brief moment. "Hi, hyung. How come Hobi-hyung isn't with us?"

They pulled out of the parking lot, heading out towards the couple's new apartment. Well, it wasn't that new anymore; they'd been living together for a month now. Still, Jungkook had only been over twice. The last time taught him that just because the door was unlocked does not mean you can let yourself in. He cried the rest of the day over it.

"Oh, he's entertaining the hyungs and Jiminie. We all wanna spend some time with you, and we feel bad for neglecting you. I think I've been neglecting you the most, though. I'm truly sorry for that."

Jungkook felt a weight drop onto his thigh, lifting his eyes to discover Taehyung's outstretched hand waiting for him. They always used to hold hands; the first time Hoseok caught them, Taehyung had to calm him down and tell him it was a habit they shared for the entirety of their friendship and not to assume anything.

The pair hadn't held hands in a long time. Jungkook didn't want to miss this opportunity to be even remotely intimate with his secret love; any form of physical affection from the older was enough for him.

Even though his heart ached and a lump was forming in his throat, the younger boy found it in himself to smile. "It's okay, hyung. You're an adult; you're gonna be busy."
