The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and I want to wring their necks.
Don't get me wrong, I love them to death, but they're the ones who got me into the mess.
"Let me help!" My back is starting to ache as I stand my ground. I'm fatigued and as the frying pan sizzles and the heavenly smell makes me want to scarf down everything in this kitchen, but my stubbornness refuses to let me just sit and watch.
"I'm trying to treat you to a nice relaxing dinner and all you want to do is fight with me?" Kai chuckles and shakes his head like I'm crazy.
Yes, the gesture is greatly appreciated, but I'm not one to sit around and watch without trying to give anything in return. And something tells me I won't be able to be very helpful soon.
I huff in protest but Kai only gives me the side eye and continues working on dinner.
My inner brat only fumes at his dismissal. Screw it. What will he do? Sue me?
I stomp towards the cutting boards, then grab the veggies and a knife. A hand is on my wrist and another on my waist in an instant.
"I don't think so love." His tone leaves no room for discussion and his grip lightly tightens.
I don't budge, "Or what?"
The challenge fuels me with power, pride, and lust. What? Blame the hormones. His grip tightens on my wrist but the hand on my hip travels to my 5 month bump.
His warm breath tickles my ear as a small growl escapes his lips, "Kai told you to sit down and rest. It's best you keep in mind just because we won't spank you, doesn't mean you're suddenly in charge princess. You and I both know there are other ways to punish you."
By his tone and the way he pushes himself closer to my ass I'm assuming he doesn't mean just a time out. I drop the knife instantly, making Xavier's lips curl up into a smirk against my skin.
"Good girl." He kisses my temple then leads me to a bar stool, placing me on his lap.
His hands travel to my stomach as his lips trail across his mark, "I missed you."
This has nearly become a nightly routine. Ever since we found out I was pregnant, he's detested work, hating the idea of leaving me alone. But as he whispers those words I'm unsure if he's speaking to me or the baby.
I actually joked about him missing the baby more than me once just to tease him. He made sure to show me just how much he missed me that night, and the morning after. The memory makes me squirm in his lap.
This riles him up, his hand traveling up to my sensitive breasts the other heading towards me throbbing core. I let out a breathy moan, but Kai's voice snaps us out of our lust filled trance, "Okay you two, she needs to eat."
Kai's right. Morning sickness has kicked my butt today, and I can't wait for this wretched portion of my pregnancy to finally be over. But I haven't been sick for the past few hours so hopefully I can keep my dinner down tonight.
Xavier keeps me on his lap, as Kai feeds me my food in between his own bites. The sautéed vegetables practically melt in my mouth, as we all eat our dinner in peace.
"Jaxon texted me today. He seems to be doing well. Have you guys got any closer to figuring out how to get us recognized as a pack?"
The idea that we have to go through this process is honestly ridiculous. Although the pack is compiled of past rogues, we are still a pack. But unless we can be recognized by the council we'll always be seen as a group of dangerous rogues. Because of that, and the fact that we're growing exponentially, other packs have the right to attack us in order to "protect" themselves.
Xavier and Kai never really cared to be recognized by the council in the past. Only focusing on growing and taking over other packs they saw as a threat to protect themselves. But now that I'm in the picture, and our family is about to begin, they've agreed with Jaxon that becoming an official pack would be the best option.
Xavier shrugs, not too keen on the headache the whole process is giving him, "We're weighing our options. The council is being a pain in the ass, trying to claim we need a statement from every single pack member as to why they were rogues. They say because we're such a large group we need to show that we're not a dangerous army. But then other council members are saying our pack isn't big enough to be an official pack. It's all contradicting and just their way to give us hell because of what they've branded us as."
The thought of them giving us problems when all we want to do is give the people other packs have neglected to care for a peaceful place to call home makes my blood boil. We're a pack, and yes my mates have done things in the past to protect themselves that were not right, they're trying to make things right now, and those pricks are making it impossible.
"Those idiots. I'm going to write them a letter."
Kai chuckles at me words and kisses my frown away, "As much appreciated that'll be I don't think they care much about your angry letter princess. No use wasting your breath on them."
Xavier grumbles in agreement and tells me that everything will work out. Their comforting touches and feathery kisses calm me down, but the wheels in my head for how we can be through to them don't stop. I think they notice me lost in my Jesse because they stop and watch me for a bit.
Kai breaks the silence, "How about we go out for some ice cream? Maybe Jonathan and Olivia will want to come with?"
"Ice cream!?" I perk up and practically jump out of Xavier's lap.
"Yes love, go get a jacket it is starting to get a bit chilly," Xavier pats my butt and follows me to our room, "but we're only getting one scoop, it's getting a bit late for sweets."
The idea of only one scoop makes me pout, but I don't disagree. We'll see when we get there.
I slip on Xavier's hoodie and run down to get my sandals, "No running baby!" Kai yells from the kitchen making me slow down. No fun...
I slip on my sandals and my mood suddenly falters. My slightly swollen feet puff out from my sandal straps, making it look like they could snap at any moment. I go to take them off but Kai stops me.
"Leave them in baby, they look beautiful." A kiss on my forehead makes my eyes water, and I do as he says. Although the little changes in my body are becoming more and more noticeable, my mates do absolutely everything to make sure I still feel beautiful and loved.
Because of daylight savings the sun is just now setting even though it's getting late, and the air is perfect temperature. Xavier grabs his keys but I stop him.
"Can we walk, please daddy?" Xavier hesitates telling me it's too far of a walk, but with a little more convincing he finally lets in.
We meet Olivia and Jonathan at their house then all walk together. The boys walk behind us discussing pack things, while Olivia and I start deciding on what kind of things we'd want at the baby shower Olivia insists on throwing me. My boys and I agreed on keeping the gender a surprise so the party will be gender neutral.
While Olivia and I continue talking about the party and the games we'll want to play, the dreamy look in her eyes is clear as day. After seeing us get married, Olivia and Jonathan took a couple months discussing the idea of starting their family, both of them finally ready to have kids. But, to their dismay they haven't had any luck yet, and I know it was starting to worry them both.
I feel bad letting her do all of this to celebrate my pregnancy while she's struggling to get pregnant herself, but she insists on doing this as my best friend and doesn't seem bothered by it at all.
"What do you feel like today baby?" Kai rubs my back as I stare at the menu in complete focus. Who knew ordering ice cream would be so stressful. And I can only get one scoop!
Olivia and Jonathan order their ice cream first so that way they can find a round table for us outside.
Finally I narrow it down to rocky road and pistachio. Decisions... decisions...
I stare at Kai with wide eyes and I know he can see my internal struggle, "Can I get two scoops please daddy?"
He chuckles and shakes his head, "What did Xavier say?"
I contiplate on telling him the truth or not, my stomach screams at me demanding both flavors, "Well... he's not the boss of you."
Kai nearly chokes on air, then contiplates my words. Then he laughs, "Nice try, brat. Go on, go ask him and see what he says."
I go tug on Xavier's sleeve, looking at him with my best puppy dog eyes. He leans down so I can whisper in his ear, "Daddy... I really really want rocky road but I'm also craving pistachio..."
Yes I'm pulling the cravings card, sue me. Xavier looks at me and raises a brow. I give him my best pretty please and he sighs, caving in. Once it's our turn, Kai orders his, then Xavier, then he orders rocky road and pistachio cone.
"Ooh! And maybe strawberry?"
That earns me a pinch in my butt and Xavier looks at me sternly, "Don't push your luck love." Well two out of the three will do.
We all eat our ice cream, and continue catching up. The whole time it looks like Olivia is going to bounce out of her seat. Does she need to pee?
Jonathan laughs and nudges her, "Go ahead baby tell them."
Tell us? Tell us what?
"Okay, well you know that Jonathan and I have been trying to start a family for a while now..." her smile grows immensely, "I'm pregnant!"
I scream, glad we're outside, "Oh my gosh Olivia congratulations!"
I scoop her into a bone crushing hug making her laugh. "Thank you! It's still kinda early but we took like five tests, went to the doctors, and it's official."
As we talk more about her exciting news we begin talking about how our kids will be close in age, planning out their future friendships and family trips we will have to take. As the stars shine above us, and Kai's hand rubs my baby bump lovingly it all feels like a dream come true.
