CHAPTER THIRTY SIX: Laura's dirty deed

Jack's Pov

After leaving the Claw foot club i drove straight to mayors creation.

As i alighted from my car i quickly noticed something is amiss.
I could see my emoloyees smiling and greeting me happily.
I was confused.

I could hear them whispering to themselves but I can't hear clearly what they were talking about.

I step into my grand office and i receive the surprise.

A small celebration is going on , i smile but still confused.
Donald quickly came to me as he saw me walk inside.

" Jack " he said smiling.

I roll my eyes before laughing
" We are at work, show your Respect man , what is this about ? " I asked.

" Your competition is coming up, we heard it from the news "

I blink in surprise. " What competition? "

" Swimming " he said smiling.

" Ah yes yes but i haven't really apply for it " i said smiling.

My manager mel is at it again, now that it is out in the news i won't be able to avoid it anymore.
I sighed softly before smiling up at my well wishers.

" My mum can't wait to see you in the pool, you know she is your greatest fan " Donald whispered to me as i walk around nodding to the small gathering.

" Oh yes, another reason for me to win then " i replied.

After almost an hour the small crowd all dismissed.
My office was set back to normal and i am left with happy spirit.

I am very grateful to my staffs and my personal assistant.

Donald walk into my office with a file.
" Here are the new contract we secure. Probably before the end of the year mayors creation will be back on track "

" Good, i plan to invest in mayors creation with the money i made from the competition as well " i told him receiving the file.

I got busy with work for almost three hours with Donald, i attended a meeting as well.

It was nearly evening when i got ready to visit my manager.

" Today has been so hectic. I see mayors creation is slowly regaining it's normal place. But we are still far behind, i think we can do better " i said to Donald as i get prepare to leave.

" Of course, all we needed is to pour money into the firm to save it "

I nodded " we will do just that. I got to go now , make sure you cleared up before leaving " i said grabbing my car key.

" Yes boss " he replied jokingly and i smile.
I walk out of the office , straight to my car.

I started the car and was on my way to my manager when Maureen's call came in.
I answered it but stay mute.
I am still mad at her for leaving home even though she knew it is dangerous.

" Jack ? " She called.

" Yes? " I replied in a low tone.

" It is Laura " I heard her says urgently.
I quickly parked my car to hear her well.

" How do you mean ? What happened ? " I asked urgently.

" She left, i came down stairs after taking a nap but she is not here "

I breath out heavily.

" Come on Maureen, she probably went for groceries or something "
I said trying to calm her down.

" No, her luggages are not in her room. It seems like she pack out "

" What? " I asked in surprise.

Laura packed out without telling me anything??
What's going on ?

" Jack I'm scared " i heard my sister said in a shaky voice.

My fingers gripped the cellphone tightly.

" There is nothing to be scared about, I'm on my way ... Okay ? " I told her gently.

" Jack? Someone is here "

I stop breathing all of a sudden.
Oh My goodness!

" Maureen lock the doors, do not open the door for anyone except Jill or han ... You got it ? " I told her in a command tone but she did not reply.

The next thing i heard was her scream.

I became very agitated, what must have happened to her.

I revived the car driving speedily back home.

Maureen please be safe.

My cellphone rang again and I stare at it. Han!

I ignore it, it will be hard to tell him something is wrong with Maureen.
The call came in again but still i ignore it.

I finally arrived at my house, i get out of the car hastily and dash inside.

Maureen was on the floor laying down lifelessly.

My heart dropped into my stomach and i exhaled sharply.

I quickly go to her , i feel her pulse and to my great relieve she is breathing.

I carried her to her room , laying her down gently on her bed.

I get out to retrieve my cellphone from the car.

I missed another call from han, i walk up towards Laura's room and truly the room has been cleared.

I swallow hard, i have trusted her so much.

What have i done!!!

I could remember han telling me he did not trust her and also i remembered how Jill was uncomfortable with her breakfast today.

I race to Maureen's room staring at her.

The main reason i prefer to live quietly without maids around me is strictly because of betrayal.

Who would have believe Laura was working with the Mikes.

I peer down at my sister and i noticed she is breathing normally but still i had to call a doctor.

I quickly put a call to doctor Joan but the latter did not pick.
I called him again but still he did not answer his call.

I became frustrated, i couldn't call Sally if i really love my sister.

She might end up giving her a dangerous treatment like she did to han.

Oh yes! Han!

The thought hit me.
Why is he calling ?
I quickly call him and he answered after the second ring.

" Jack something is wrong " He told me , his voice breaking.

I frown in confusion.

" What is wrong? " I asked urgently.

I could hear his breath, i realized he is taking his time to explain.

" Where is Jill " i asked him urgently , my heart pounding.

" She is in Joan's hospital " i heard han manage to say in a silent tone.

" What? Why is she there ? "

" I think she is poisoned "

I blink trying to make light of the situation.

" How can she be poisoned? "

" Her skin is somehow . It become worse after we arrive at the hospital. Joan said it is a very deadly poisoned . You have to come now because i think she is going into surgery "

I heard han hang up and i stare blankly ahead.

What is happening ?
Surgery??
If Jill was poisoned it will be none other than Laura's deed.

I flopped on the bed beside Maureen and i pray for strength.
