Warnings: none
This is just a little blurb. I was inspired by a tweet I saw but cannot find it again for the life of me.
My eyes opened as I felt a soft warmness touching my skin. On a normal day, the warmness would usually be Wanda, her hand resting somewhere on my exposed skin. However today, it was just sunlight, casting in through the window.
I raised my head slightly, looking around, realizing that I was missing the usual sensation of Wanda right next to me. In fact, she wasn't anywhere in the bedroom.
Groaning, I rolled over and picked up my phone to check the time. It was nearing nine in the morning. Not too late and not too early to start the day.
Throwing the covers off, I got up and began shuffling out the room, in search of my girlfriend and my morning cuddles.
The first thing I noticed the moment I walked into the compound's living room and kitchen was how quiet the base was. Usually there was the constant ruckus being caused by the boys and Natasha trying to get them all to calm down. They must all be busy, either with a mission or their own projects.
In fact, the only person there in the kitchen was Wanda. She was sitting at the kitchen island, sipping on a cup of hot tea with the sleeves of her sweatshirt pulled over her hands to cover them.
I waddled over to her and wrapped my arms around her shoulders, nuzzling my face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent that never failed to make me relax.
"G'morning." I mumbled into her neck, placing several kisses where my face was.
"Morning." she replied quietly, smiling slightly and gently kissing my head.
"How'd you sleep?" I asked, pulling away and moving into the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee like I did everyday.
"Alright." Wanda said a bit quietly. There was something off about her, but I couldn't tell what. She wasn't her usual giggly and smiley self like she normally was in the mornings.
I turned around to try and get a good look at her face. She seemed distracted, staring blearily at her cup of tea, like her consciousness was trapped in unhappy thoughts and memories. I knew that sometimes she would get lost in her head, reliving the things about her past that she wished she could change or forget. However, unlike my girlfriend, I was not a mind-reader and couldn't know for sure unless she said something.
Wanda had the tendency to be a very closed off person, only confiding in someone if she trusted them deeply. For her, that was a rare occurrence given her past with losing a lot of her loved ones. I had tried my best to help her through her trust issues and learn that it's okay to open up to some people. She would for the most part be open with me, but it was still a work in progress.
I turned my attention back to the coffee pot, which was brewing away noisily as it made my morning caffeine. When enough had brewed for a cup, I began mixing the drink just the way I like it. Then I wandered over and sat down next to Wanda, who was finishing off the remainder of her tea.
"What's on your mind, my love?" I asked quietly, watching her face as a slight frown appeared on her lips.
"How did you-" she started, a bit startled that I could tell something was off.
"I'm a spy, darling. I pick up on things like you pick up on people's random thoughts." I said in a slightly teasing voice, trying to get Wanda to crack even the tiniest of smiles. Of course, she didn't, and just turned her attention back to her hands and she clenched her fists, balling up the ends of the sleeves in the process.
