"Are you listening?" Kellon asked a few minutes after he thought she calmed down.

"Mhm," she mumbled.

He looked over at her, shook his head and mimicked her position by looking through the window. Relaxing, he took them both down memory lane. . .

[age eighteen. . .]

Walking home from school, Kellon was surprised when he saw a person lingering by his house's gate. He hadn't seen them in a long while.

"A really you dat, dawg?"

The other man leaned off the wall and approached him. "Yea, bro. Free from e system now."

Kellon gave his friend a happy smile. "Happy fi yu, dawg," they exchanged a hug. "Waa yu plans now?"

"A dat mi fawud fi check yu pon," he took a spliff from behind his ear and lit it. "So memba tha last money deh-"

The smile was wiped off Kellon's face. Life was going too well for him to trod that road again. "Leff dat alone-"

The man hissed his teeth. "Fuckry yaa tell me, dawg. A true yav people wid links now yu feel yu betta than me?"

"Neva dat. Yaa mi bredda," Kellon said. "A cause me people have money mek mi know seh mi nuh waa dis fi yu again, bro. Me can borrow money from dem and gi yu fi yu help put yuself on yu feet-"

"No," he insisted. He took a puff from his spliff and exhaled the smoke then sucked it back into his mouth. "A the only money dat mi eva work fa ina mi life."

"Dat a change compared to wa mi can give yu," Kellon reasoned. "A years since tha ting deh, it goodly gone already."

"It's worth a try," he replied. Fixing Kellon with a look of desperation, he pleaded, "Please, bro, just help me wid dis."

Somewhat unwillingly, Kellon obliged. . . He took some money from his bank account and hired a lawyer. After he explained the situation to the lawyer, he regretted his choice completely - especially when the convict he hoped to never see again was released two years later. . .

[age twenty. . .]

Now a free man, the first thing Zeke did was lead the two men to where he knew Mouse would have hid the money.

While his companion raged at the money's absence, Kellon maintained a calm composure. Kellon knew this would have been the outcome. . . it had been seven years since their last robbery.

"We afi find him!" Zeke growled.

"No," Kellon disagreed.

"Phiya, dawg, yu seh yu wuda help me," his friend pleaded.

Giving the man another glance, Kellon looked away, deciding that this would be the last help he offered either of these men lest they changed their ways.

Through links, they managed to track down Mouse.

"Yaa did mi bredda ino, dawg," Zeke said, furious.
