Chapter 23

He places a hand on your shoulder.
Sora: What about her??
You stare down at your phone as tears continue to fall
You: She's been in an accident...
Dr. Stevens: Hello??? Y/N?
You pick up your phone and hang up on the doctor.
You: We have to go see her now
Sora doesn't budge
You: LETS GO
Sora: Okay
He grabs his keys and you run to the car, urging him to hurry up. Once you guys get on the main road you beg him to drive faster.
You: Please please please drive faster
He presses harder on the gas and by now he's going at least 100 miles per hour if not more. He's swerving to avoid cars and you're praying there's no police officers. You guys make it to the hospital in no time. You guys walk toward the emergency room
You: This is all my fault...my mom likes to drive when she's stressed and she would've been at home if I was nicer to her
Sora: It's not your fault...you couldn't have known this was gonna happen
He rubs your back as you guys approach the desk
Nurse: How can I help you
You: Um i'm here to see my mom
You give her your moms name and she tells you she's in room 345 which is upstairs. You and Sora take the elevator upstairs and rush to your moms room. When you get into the room there's about 4 doctors. You look over at your mom and throw your hands over your mouth. Her face and head is bandaged, she's hooked up to a ventilator, she has an IV in her arm, and her eyes are shut and that's only what you can see. You don't even wanna know what's under the hospital gown.
Dr. Stevens: Are you her daughter?
You nod your head still in shock, the doctor extends her hand out.
Dr. Stevens: I'm doctor Stevens, we spoke on the phone
You: Yeah...
Dr. Stevens: As I said before your mom was in a serious accident, she suffered serious head injuries, as well as injuries to her face and legs. She's currently in a coma and we won't know the extent of her injuries until she wakes up...if she wakes up, i'm so sorry. Um you were her only emergency contact, is there anyone else we can call??
You think about your grandma, but you also remember that your mom hates her. If it comes down to it, you don't want someone she hates to decide if she lives or dies.
You: No...
Dr. Stevens: I encourage you to still speak to her, she may be able to hear you
You: Okay
Dr. Stevens: I'll give you some space now, i'll be right outside the door if anything changes
You wipe your tears and nod your head. You then approach your moms bed.
You: I'm so sorry...
You begin sobbing uncontrollably, you can barely breathe.
You: I didn't mean it when I said I hate you...i-i love you more than anything in this world mom...i n-need you, you cannot leave me
You begin hyperventilating struggling to breathe . Sora comes over and places a hand on your stomach and calls out to the doctor.
Sora: She needs help!!! She can't breathe
The doctor rushes into the room as you grip the railing of your moms hospital bed for support. The doctor puts and oxygen mask on your face and encourages you to breathe
Dr. Stevens: Take a deep breath in...and out...in...and out
She coaches you until you catch your breathe again, however your breathing is still shaky
Dr. Stevens: I'm sorry sweetie...i wish there was something I could do to help
You nod your head and look at Sora
You: Can we go, i don't think I can be here anymore
Sora nods his head and takes your hand leading you out the room. You look back taking one last glance at her, praying that she will wake up. When you guys arrive at home you can't even find the strength to get out the car. Sora lifts you out the car and carries you upstairs to his room. You lay down on the bed and curl up into a ball.
Sora: Do you wanna shower?
You shake your head and he nods. He climbs in bed next to you and pulls the blanket over your body. He holds you close and tight whispering that everything is gonna be okay until you somehow fall asleep.
