¤ (Y/n)'s Point Of View ¤
The next day I woke up refreshed, having bathed right before heading to bed the night before. I woke up happy, thinking not a thing in the world could bring down my mood. So after having breakfast, I decided to go to meet Sukuna earlier than usual. The sky was bright out side with a tint of red in the far distance that I assumed were the flames of the sun.
I went through my whole routine of escaping, having gotten far more graceful with it all after a year of sneaking out through my window and the nearby trees. I climbed the hill with a smile, already somehow knowing that Sukuna was at the top. Sometimes I could just feel that he was there and sometimes I could feel if he wasn't, and on those days I didnt have to wait long because I was pretty sure he could feel if I was there too.
When I got to the top, I took some time to catch my breath I tried to make my way to Sukuna. After looking up, the first thing I noticed was that he wasn't sitting down in any of his usual places, instead he stood tall at the peak of the hill, staring at the red parts of the morning sky. I guess he became intranced by the view, red was his colour after all.
Before I could greet him hello, the man suddenly held out his hand in a halting motion making me stand in place, sensing my presence behind him.
"Stop." He said lowly, making my brows furrow. He sounded way to serious for the first thing in the morning. Had I upset him in some way?A frown made it's way to my face as I took another step closer, never having been known to actually listen to Sukuna.
"Why?" I asked him with a frown, slowly stepping closer to him with pure hesitation, Sukuna's arms still held up.
"What's the matter?" I asked him again, not getting a response for his weird behaviour."Don't come any closer..." The man told me darkly, still not having turned around to face me, staring off intently into the diatance. But I didn't listen to him, step by step slowly and hesitantly coming closer to him with a frown. He talked through gritted teeth, seeming on edge. I was too curious to stay back. I couldn't.
"Sukuna?..." I called out softly, now standing right behind him. The man didn't answer, so my eyes travelled to where he was looking at. And that's when I realised.Smoke. Ash. Ice. Fire. I could see everything under the blazing sun.
"Is...that fire?" I whispered shakily, my arms covering in goosebumps.
"Damn it, I said don't!" Sukuna snapped, finally turning to me before realising that it was too late. My eyes couldn't focus, unable to process as I watched the village burn, remnants of jujutsu coming from all four corners of the civilisation.A gasp rippled through my throat, my legs shaking as I took another step forward to see it more clearly while Sukuna sighed in defeat, his efforts of keeping this sight from me having failed.
"T-the village." I stuttered out, my eyes watering as I faintly heard screams. My lips trembled as my eyes flickered over every possible house in the distance, some frozen in ice and some set aflame by blue fire. Over the village was a cloud of red, most definitely blood."Shuntaro!" I exclaimed in fear, my legs moving on their own as I ran down the hill. Tears ran down my face as I ran, my legs giving out half way down the hill with made me tumble down the rest of the way. I had managed to both cut and bruise myself in multiple locations yet forced myself to stand despite the pain. I began running again, sobs building up in my throat which made it hard to breath. It wasn't long before I fell again.
That was when Sukuna had warped infront of me, staring down at me with pitiful eyes, a look that I had never thought I'd see on him. I looked up at him through my tears from my spot on the ground, already knowing that if Shuntaro was alive then I wouldn't get there in time by the way I kept running and falling. My lips trembled as I looked him in the eyes, my skin pale.
"S-Sukuna, please." I begged him, tears running down my cheeks and past my lips. I probably looked pathetic to him, yet I didn't care. I couldn't afford to. He knew what I was asking of him. Him being the only one with the ability to get to that village in the blink of an eye. By the look in his eyes, it was clear that he was hesitating. That meant that the sight there would be hard to see, but I didnt care. And he knew that too.
The man wordlessly kneeled to me, placing a delicate hand over my eyes before activating his jujutsu. I knew he had warped me after feeling the earth move from my feet, the feeling of grass changing into the feeling of broken rubble. When Sukuna's hand had lifted from eyes, my eyes stayed closed. I couldn't bring myself to open them, I was scared. The smell of ash and the warmth of the air genuiney frightened me.
I had always been well accustomed to death. Death of those who disobeyed. Death of those who comitted crimes. Death of those who wronged my father. Yet the smell of burning flesh made me feel sick to my stomach. These people- Shuntaro, were innocent. Not even Sukuna could kill them now. The moment I opened my eyes, I choked back a sob. My breath goat caught in my throat and my heart flared painfully.
Dead bodies everywhere. Even sky was lit aflame, the floors burning to made. There was ice melting at the sides of houses, some bodied encased in eyes. Sukuna couldn't help but look around squinting his eyes as the traces of forbidden jujutsu. Fire jujutsu was forbidden. That's why Sukuna's crimes were always linked back to him and not anyone else. Because he was the only one who dared learn such a destructive technique. Not anymore.
I stood up with parted lips, my breathing becoming heavier by the minute as I looked up at the welcome sign that was beside a tavern. Each Kanji character reading 'Death to the emperor'. I covered my mouth in shock as I stumbled through the village, making my way to the area that I became most familiar with, my scandals soaked in blood.
And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse...I saw Shuntaro. His body left carelessly in the middle of the road, a sword wound coming through the middle of his chest. His lifeless eyes were left open in shock, laying limp, pale and cold on the bloody streets.
"Shuntaro!" I yelled, my voice breaking from the cry."No, no, no, no!" I cried, my soul leaving my body and my tears becoming painful as I made a run to him. I collapsed beside his body with my knees skidding against the ground, Sukuna standing wordlesly behind me as I pulled the cold body to my chest with a painful cry.
"S-Shuntaro, n-no." I cried, rocking the child against my chest as I sobbed."T-This wasn't s-supposed to happen." I cried, my words coming out muffled as I rocked the boy back and forth against me. I looked down at his lifeless face, no longer feeling his determination nor enthusiasm. He was cold. Dead.
"Y-You were supposed to outlive m-me." I cried, moving the damp strands of his brown hair away from his eyes. My eyes flickered down to his lips, the boy that I'd never see grin again. I let the realisation sink in numbly.Shuntaro was gone.
