Next day Tory's pov I went downstairs and I was greeted by my dad and grandma. My dad was making breakfast for everyone. "Hey girl feeling okay?" Asked my dad. I sat down at the bar and said "yeah I'm okay. What's for breakfast?" "Eggs, sausage, waffles, and some biscuits." "Good because i am starving." I explained. He served me a plate and I began to eat. "So grandma are you ready for your surgery?" I asked her. She took a bite out of her waffle and said "I mean as ready as I Can be. Only a few days left." "Don't worry it's gonna be okay. You'll see." Explained my dad. "So where's josh? Why isn't he here?" She asked "He's at home. He just needed some time alone. He's going through a tough time with his family." "Whats going on with them?" Asked my dad. "Well his mom um she has breast cancer, and well josh and his brother hate each other so it's making things in the family kinda complicated." I explained. "Damn that sucks." He said I nodded and took a bite out of my biscuit. "Yup." "Anyway I think I'm gonna head out and see how he's doing. I'll come by later." I said "Here take him a plate to go." Said my dad. He made josh a plate and wrapped it In foil. He handed it to me and I smiled. "Thanks dad. See you guys later." I said as I started to head out. When I got home josh was outside on the patio with buddy and nova. I set the plate down and smiled. "Dad made you a plate." He looked up at me and gave me a faint smile. "Thanks." I sat down and he unwrapped the plate and began to eat. "You okay?" I asked. "Yeah." I looked down at his arm and he had 2 cuts. "What happened there?" I asked "Where?" I pointed to the cuts on his arm. "Oh buddy got a little crazy last night we were playing a little rough." And like a dumbass I believed it. I didn't think twice about how it could be a totally different reason. "Looks like she's gonna need a nail trim soon then." "Anyway, your moms surgery is in 4 days." He set down his fork. "Yeah i know." "Are we going?" "I mean i guess." He said. After that we just stayed silent. I went back inside and I cleaned the house. That's what I usually did when I was stressing out. Tomorrow was also supposed to be the first day back to school, but that didn't matter at this point. The only think that mattered was Josh's mom and her health. Later that day.. I was laying down on the couch watching TikTok's when I got a call from my dad. "Hello?" "Hey Tory, guess who's in town?" "Uh who?" I asked confused. "Tanner! Remember? Your like best friend." I sat up. "Holy shit! Really? I haven't seen him since mom passed." "Yeah He's here at the house, he thought you lived with me still." "Im on my way there." I threw on some random clothes and I went to go grab josh. "Hey do you wanna come to my dads house with me?" "For what?" he asked plainly. "Well my best friend tanner is in town. I want to go see him." "Is it going to take long?" "Josh if you don't wanna go then just say so." I said annoyed. "I'll go I guess." He stood up and we drove to my dad house. When I got there they were outside on the patio. "Fucking dick." I said while extending my arms for a hug. He smiled and hugged me back. "Hey asshole."

"Dude you look so different what the hell." He laughed. "Haha yeah college will do that to you." "What year of college are you in?" Asked my dad. "It's my sophomore year." "Oh tanner this is my boyfriend josh." Tanner extended his hand and so did josh. "Nice to meet you." Josh just nodded. Why was he acting so weird? "So where are you staying?" I asked "I Don't know yet. Haha Im actually transferring schools. I start at the university of Arizona next week." He explained. "That's so cool!" "Yeah so i Don't have a place yet." "You Can stay with me and josh at our house, there's plenty of room." I said without hesitation. "You guys have a house?" "Yup." Said josh. "Cool, never thought I'd see Tory with a guy." He teased. I punched his shoulder playfully and he laughed. Josh pulled me aside and said. "I'm gonna Uber home. I don't wanna be here." Before I could say anything he grabbed the house keys and left. What was his problem? Did I do something wrong for him to act like this? I didn't know what was going on with josh, but I did know we had been here before. It would only get worse from here.
