I was ready for the first finals of my college career. How bad could it be, right?
I had nothing to distract me, and I felt confident I knew my material, so I was not sweating at all.
"Good luck sweetie!" Angel Facetimed me the day before my first final on Monday. Angel was absolutely glowing. I always thought she was super beautiful, but pregnancy made her stand out even more. She did not have her standard long weave in and her natural hair had grown quite a bit. It was longer and thicker than the weave she wore.
One look at Angel and I could tell she used to be a model. Besides the height, she simply had the face to model.
"Thanks, Angel." I cringed when I called her by her name, but she did not seem to mind.
"No matter what you know your father and I are proud of you."
"Thanks for believing in me. Thanks for not giving up on this little poor wretched girl that gave you hell at first."
"You were a kid, I didn't think bad of you."
Now she was lying to me. "Oh come on, I know you thought I was a BeBe kid."
Angel laughed because she knew I was right. I laughed at it too. Angel could have held all the bad things I did against me, but she did not. I was not that young when she met my father, just very immature. Wanting something that was never meant to be.
"I can't wait to get home and get my new car...I mean present."
"Uh, just focus on your exams little girl, don't worry about what your father and I have for you. Bye, love you."
"Love you too."
I needed to go into my final week of the semester stress-free, so I called up Todd and told him we did not need to study again.
"Why not?" he asked, and I could tell he did not like hearing this.
"Because I think you want something more than what I want. I just want a friend. I don't want you to misconstrue what we had. Just friends."
"But...I thought if we were both free to date each other, you wanted to date me?"
At one point I thought was pretty cute, smart, and funny, now I did not feel those things for him. I had to trust my instinct and just let him go.
"I'm sorry, I can only offer you friendship."
"Okay, fine!" he snapped then hung up on me.
Well, that did not go well. Hopefully, after finals and break, he would be over it.
With that out of the way, I also had to tackle my roommate situation. They were not bothering me at all, but we still had not had a sit-down discussion about everything.
"I just wanted to let you guys know I'm sorry about what happened, with my friends. I hold no bad feelings toward you guys and we did have some fun. If I see you guys around campus, we can at least be cordial to each other, right?"
Twyla sat on the sofa and looked down at her hands planted on her lap. Her stomach had started to show now, especially in the tight shirt she wore. Allura sat beside her and looked at me blankly, not saying anything.
"You won't see me," Twyla said softly. "I'm not coming back."
Whoa! I had no idea she decided to not come back to school. Probably because, well, she was having a baby. I did not know what to say to that, so I kept quiet.
"Then you don't have to move out Rayvn," Allura said.
"Huh?"
"It will be you and I, and maybe we get another roommate. Yeah, Gay can move in, she's here like she lives here anyway."
