Wes’ pov
It’s been 3 days since Tyler’s death and Ben hasn’t been himself. He’s become more secluded and has delved deeper into his work. He doesn’t look at anyone if he can help it, he hasn’t spoke in the last 2 meetings and refuses to socialise with our co-workers or anyone else in the dormitory.
He wasn’t as secluded or isolated before Tyler took part in the experiment. So, what in the name of the Greek gods has Tyler done to make him care so much. I know we all have been friends for years but blimming heck, if I was like that he would’ve smacked me out of the depressive spiral. I hope he gets over this soon because this isn’t doing him any good. I’d really hate for something worse to happen.
I sigh as I look at the syringe in my hand and hold It to my arm. Ben walks in just as I inject myself with the serum and stares in horror. I look at him and regret what I just did. I put the syringe in the sharps bin and walk slightly over to him.
‘’why did you just-?’’ his voice was soft yet gravelly through not really speaking to anyone and he walks over to me since he sees the site of the injection bleeding. He cleans the blood and bandages it.
‘’you’re an idiot Wes. You really don’t have a clue what this serum can do to you do you?’’ he asks and I was about to shake my head then remembered what happened to his sister. He glared at me with concern as I don’t say anything.
I chuckle softly as his glare darkens. I sigh then pull him in for a small hug, while rubbing his back. I couldn’t help but to try and lighten the situation since it was a bit too dark for my liking. Ben just sighed as he said.
‘’you say I’m reckless, yet you are messing with that blasted chemical that killed my sister.’’ I sigh and pat his head as he tries to escape my grasp. I let go of him and he stares at me.
‘’don’t you dare do that idiotic action again.’’ He had said before he left making it so that I couldn’t get another word in.
3rd person pov
Ben walked through the building with his head down, not paying any attention to anyone or anything. Most of his colleagues stared at him and gossiped about what happened to Tyler. The voices in his mind agreed with every single bit of gossip that came his way and laughed at him when he would get hurt.
Nothing stopped the voices from laughing at him and hurting him. Not even smoking or drowning his sorrows away with alcohol. He was feeling numb and noting could fix that. He blamed himself for Tyler’s death. He blamed himself for everything that happened.
If there was a medal for the most guilt and self-hatred in syntec, Ben would have won it from how rubbish he was feeling. Tyler had obviously become the light of his world yet they were ripped from him meaning he lost his only light and hope for love. He wished he could go back to the way it was before the dormitory accident.
He found it hard to do any work but he had decided to push on despite his lack of motivation. He had delved deeper into his work though he occasionally checked on Wes after catching him with the syringe.
Ben looked at the syringe in his hand after sterilising the spot on his arm where the syringe would go and sighed. He promised himself that he wouldn’t but he had lost his mind and couldn’t stop himself anymore. He plunged the needle into his arm and nearly cried out in pain as the serum went into his blood stream. He bit his tongue as he pulled the needle out of his arm and winced as he forgot how much needles cause pain. He had sat down in his chair after separating the needle from the syringe, throwing it in the sharps bin and then threw the rest of the syringe into the bin. He wrapped up the wound caused by the syringe and Wes walks in as he rolls his sleeve down.
‘’Ben tell me that you did not just inject the serum into your blood stream… Ben please tell me that you didn’t do what I think you did.’’ Wes had said and Ben just looked away slightly confirming that he did. To which Wes put his hand on his face and sighed.
