"MISS Penelope, try this! I guarantee you that this fits you just right."
Tinaasan ko lang ng kilay ang sales lady na nagpakita sa 'kin ng isang black lace dress. Maganda naman ito, pero hindi ako pumunta dito para bumili ng kulay black na damit. I am so done with people thinking that I came from a wake.
"Did I even ask for your opinion?" I said, raising a brow at her. Mukha namang nawala lahat ng kulay sa mukha niya dahil sa hiya. She apologized and took a step back, making me grin.
Weekend na kaya napagdesisyunan kong magpunta sa mall para bumili ng mga bagong damit. Normally, I would order someone else to do it for me but strangely, I found myself walking out of bed this morning, calling my new driver to come with me here.
As I was browsing through the branded clothes in front of me, I heard the chimes ring, indicating that someone entered the store. Hindi ko na sana ito papansinin since hindi ko naman responsibilidad na tingnan ang mga pangit na pagmumukha ng ibang customer dito, but I was halted when some familiar voice called my name.
"Penny!"
Out of instinct, agad akong napalingon at bumungad sa 'kin si Jago at Clifford na naglalakad patungo sa direksyon ko. Jago was waving at me while Clifford quickly avoided my gaze.
I suddenly remembered how I blackmailed him the other day. Hindi na rin kami nag-usap ulit ever since noʼn. Looks like he got scared of my threat so he didn't bother to do so.
On the other hand, bullshit! Bakit nandito ang mga 'to?! I just wanted to go out for the weekend by myself — and my driver, since I don't have a driverʼs license yet.
I was about to hide but it dawned to me that they already saw me. Kahit isang araw lang, ayokong makipagsagutan o makipag-away kahit kanino. Iʼm already numb from my last encounter with Cora and Mason — both physically and emotionally.
Bakit ba ang malas ko?!
I gulped, turning to look at the two guys who were just near me.
"Hey..." bati ko dahilan para tumigil silang dalawa sa harapan ko.
Jagoʼs smile looked like it was having an internal crisis whether itʼs going to fade or not. Si Clifford naman, walang kaemo-emosyon ang mukha at pilit pa ring umiiwas ng tingin sa 'kin.
"Kumusta ka?" Jago asked, still smiling.
"Iʼm... fine," I lied, but it didnʼt matter since I know that they know that I'm not.
Tumango-tango naman si Jago and then, there was silence.
Awkward...
"Magsi-CR lang ako," paalam ni Clifford at dali-daling tumalikod.
Jago quickly grabbed his arm to stop him. "Pero kakaihi mo lang kanina bago tayo magpunta dito, ah?"
