PENNY

A few days later...

"HAVE you already talked to Jago?" tanong ko kay Clifford, nakatitig nang diretso sa screen ng laptop ko at parang may sariling buhay ang mga kamay kong nagta-type sa keyboard.

From my periphery, I saw Clifford sat in front of me and sighed, a cup of coffee in his hand.

I couldnʼt help but notice the look of worry plastered in his face.

I heaved a deep breath as I closed my laptop. I cupped my face with my bare palms and let out a frustrated grumble.

Days have passed since I last saw Jago and until now, wala pa ring ibang nakakakita sa kaniya. Even though I know that this isnʼt the right time yet, nagawa ko pa ring tanungin si Remi kung may alam ba siya sa nangyayari sa kaibigan namin.

Aminin ko man o hindi, Iʼm dead worried about Jago. Just like Mason, he doesnʼt have anyone by his side. Even though makailang-ulit na naming sinusubukan ni Clifford na kausapin siya, our efforts were only put in vain.

"What the hell is going on with you, Jago..." I couldnʼt help but mutter my thoughts out loud.

I tucked the strands of my hair to the back of my ears as I looked at his open hand, then I shifted my gaze to him.

He flashed a comforting and gentle smile — one that he always shows to me whenever things are getting a little rough to handle.

"'Wag ka nang masyadong mag-alala," he assured me, still with a smile on his face.

I looked at him directly in his eyes. Though there was fear and worry, a glint of hope managed to outshine them.

I took a deep breath and exhaled heavily.

"What if he ends up... doing it again?" My lips couldnʼt help but tremble as I slightly lower down my head. "What if he ends up hurting himself again? What if he ends up just like me?"

He smiled despite the worry etched in his jetblack eyes.

Just like me, he knows what Jago has been through before. Kinuwento ko ito sa kaniya after Remi told me about it. Though we have our own problems to deal with, we always try our best to look out for our friends — even though they're already falling apart.
