PENNY
"BITCHSHIEWAP, are you sure youʼre going to be okay here?" Cora asked for the nth time and also for the nth time, I smiled as I nodded in response.
"Donʼt worry, C! Iʼll be just fine," I assured her once more since she looks so worried for me.
Pero imbes na mawala ang pag-aalala na nakabalot sa kaniyang mukha, mukhang mas lalo lang itong nadagdagan. All I could do was sigh as I put down the box Iʼm holding onto the bed in front of me.
Nandito kami ngayon sa loob ng condo unit, kasama sina Remi at Mason na tinutulungan din ako sa pag-aayos ng mga gamit ko.
"Do you really have to leave the mansion? Are you sure na youʼre going to be okay here?" Cora asked again. Kanina pa siya tanong ng tanong pero hindi ko magawang mainis. I know that sheʼs only looking out for me, just like how I always do to her and to the rest of our friends.
Isang maliit na ngiti ang ipinakita ko sa kanila bago ituon ang atensyon ko sa pag-aalis ng mga damit ko mula sa maleta. "Mom and Dad kept bothering me to stay, but I just really, really, really need to get away from them for now."
After that night when I screamed in front of them about all the pain lodged in my heart, I was persistent to leave the mansion as soon as possible. I was already at my limit and I donʼt want to bother to try and please them anymore.
I just want to finally be free — be free from all the pain and burden Iʼve been carrying for all these years of my life.
And since I was very determined to get away from them so badly, they offered me to live alone in a condo unit they bought. I was skeptical at first but in the end, I accepted it. Though, I told them that Iʼll pay them once I find a regular job while searching for a college to enroll in.
Iʼm going to make sure that they wonʼt hurt me again — the same way they hurt Ate Persy before.
Nang maramdaman kong parang tumahimik ang paligid, lumingon ako at doon ko na-realize na nakatingin na pala silang tatlo sa 'kin. They all had this worried expression plastered on their faces as they stood near me.
"Penny..." Cora called, her voice sounded pitiful.
I just smiled at them, reassuring them that Iʼll be okay living on my own.
"Donʼt worry, Corat." Nagulat kami nang biglang sumabat si Mason at hinawakan ang kamay ni Cora na nasa tabi niya. "Iʼm sure Penelope could already handle the independent life."
Tumingin siya sa 'kin at sumilay ang isang maliit na ngiti sa kaniyang labi. It was one of those rare occasions where I saw him showing genuine emotion.
"But if you ever need anything, you can always count on us, okay?" he said, still smiling.
Tumango-tango naman ako habang nakangiti rin sa kanila. Meanwhile, Cora still looks worried as her eyes were fixated on me. Si Remi naman, nakatalikod sa amin at abala sa paggagala ng tingin sa paligid.
