PENNY
I SLOWLY opened my eyes to the blurred sight of the painted white ceiling. Umayos ako ng higa ngunit nagtaka ako nang makitang wala si Cora sa tabi ko.
"Bitchshiewap?" I muttered, rubbing the sleep off my eyes. Bumangon ako at naupo sa kama. I roamed my eyes around the room but I found no trace of her.
Bigla akong kinabahan. Tila nawala ang antok ko at agad akong lumabas ng kwarto para hanapin siya.
"Cora! Where are you?!" I called her name but I didnʼt receive a single response. Inikot ko na ang buong unit niya. Hinanap ko siya sa kusina, salas, pati na rin sa banyo, pero wala.
I was walking in circles in the living room when I didnʼt find her anywhere. My heart began pounding again as my hands started shaking in great panic. I gulped continuously as tears started welling up in my eyes.
"Cora..." Tuluyan na akong naiyak dahil sa labis na kaba.
And just when I was about to get my phone from the room, the unitʼs door suddenly creaked open. Napatingin ako rito at para akong nabunutan ng napakalaking tinik nang makita si Cora.
"Bitchshiewap?" she called, brow furrowed in confusion. She was wearing her red hoodie, her hairʼs a little unkempt.
I didnʼt waste a single second. Tumakbo ako papunta sa kaniya at mahigpit siyang niyakap. I felt warm tears roll down from my eyes but I didnʼt mind it at all.
"Woah. You missed me that much, huh?" She let out a soft chuckle, her hands making their way to my back.
"You smell horrible," I said as I wiped away my tears. Mahina naman siyang natawa.
"I haven't taken a bath since kahapon. Kung saan-saan na nga ako nakapunta, eh!" she chuckled.
Bumitaw ako mula sa pagkakayakap sa kaniya at tiningnan ang mukha niya. "Saan ka ba nagpunta? Iʼve been looking for you."
"Bumili lang ako ng breakfast for us!" she beamed and raised her hand holding a plastic bag.
I abruptly sighed and combed her hair with my hand. "You shouldʼve told me. Edi sana ako na lang ang bumili sa labas o kaya nag-order na lang tayo."
