Ache

The aching was the worst part of the captivity. The mental and physical ache worked together to keep Whumpee on the floor every moment they weren't being held up by another person.

They were so bruised that moving, breathing, eating, everything hurt. They missed their loved ones and their freedom so much that it hurt to try anymore.

After all; what was the point of trying when they were going to die in that cell anyway?
