You spent a couple of minutes looking around the shelves, taking out a few books to read on their backs. Feitan was watching you curiously, then he remembered something.

'I finish your book. Thank you for borrow it,' he said, 'I get it for you.'

He went around the shelf that separated his bed from the rest of the room to fetch the book, and without thinking about it you followed him. Then you froze as you recognized the picture hanging over his bed. It showed a pale black haired girl sitting in a landscape of pale red amanitas, and a huge spider with a human skull as its head hanging from a thread in front of her. Had he liked it so much that he'd bought one for himself? But no, when you got closer you noticed the familiar small crack in the frame, and you spun around to confront him.

'You stole my painting?' You could hardly believe it, and you stared furiously at him. 'You really did, didn't you? You... you... bastard.'

Feitan however looked rather smug about it.

'I thief. See something I like, I steal it.'

You swore under your breath and suddenly wished you had been able to punch him really hard before.

'You give it back!' you sneered at him. 'It's mine. You can't just take things from people like that.'

'Why not?'

'It's just wrong.'

'I bandit, murderer. Why one painting such big deal?'

'It's mine!'

He gave you an amused look. 'That ok. I steal you too.'

What? That did it, your hand practically drew aura to itself and flew towards his cheek. He however caught it easily, and you fumed at him.

'Much better,' he congratulated you, 'if you hit, it hurt little. But too slow.'

You snatched your hand back from his grasp, and rather childishly said,

'You didn't steal me. Phinks did, not you.'

'He friend. Steal for me.'

'You, you...' You were so furious you couldn't find the right words, and he narrowed his eyes, then held his arm up.

'You angry. Want break arm now?' he asked, waving it in your face.

'Don't be absurd,' you sneered, crossing your arms in front of you, 'I don't want to hurt you.'

'Can handle pain. Want to see what you can do.'

'No!'

'Just one? Then you heal it again.'

God, he was impossible to talk to, so you settled for giving him the iciest glare you could muster, but to be honest you were not sure he even noticed it. Instead he suddenly glanced up at the clock and quickly went to grab his signature coat and bandana and put them on.

'Have job now,' he said, picking up an umbrella and somehow managing to hide it in his clothing before he ushered you out the door, and led you back to the kitchen.

'Oi, you ready?' he shouted to Phinks, who nodded and got up from his seat. Before he left Feitan turned to you again, 'Find you later. We practice today,' he said, then he chuckled, 'If you good, maybe I give painting back.'

You didn't bother to answer that, but followed him and Phinks with your eyes as they left together, then you pulled out a chair to join Machi and Nobunaga at the table.

'Feitan seems to have taken a liking to you,' Nobunaga noted, looking up from his plate.

'Well, apparently we have the same taste in art...' you said grumpily, helping yourself to a piece of bread.

'Did he just say he was going to train you?' Machi asked, looking like she did not believe her own ears, and you nodded.

'Fei never does that. Ever. He has zero patience with people,' she said, giving you a skeptical look, 'What did you do to him? Use magic?'

'Er, I confused him I think,' you said hesitantly, not really sure what to say. 'And then I refused to do what he wanted...'

'And what was that?' Nobunaga asked, raising one insinuating eyebrow.

'He... um... asked me to break his arm. Of course I said no.'

'Break his arm...' They both looked at you, then at each other, and suddenly burst out laughing.

You really couldn't see what was so funny and felt a bit offended by their response. Nobunaga was still chuckling when he left the table, saying, 'See you later,' to you and Machi.

'Whatcha reading?'

You lifted your eyes from your book as Shalnark bounced down on the couch next to you, and you held it up to show him.

'Ah, artsy stuff. You know, Feitan has a lot of those, I'm sure he'll lend you some if you run out of books to read.'

You snorted, 'Humph, more likely he'll steal this one. I'm still upset about the painting he stole from me.'

'Oh yeah, I heard about that. He and Phinks went back to your place to grab it, right?'

'Phinks you say...'

'Yeah, they usually work together, and it was a pretty big painting. I mean at least it was really big compared to Feitan.'

He laughed, looking around, but neither Phinks nor Feitan were around to take the bait. Instead Kalluto was heading your way, a steaming cup in his hands.

'May I sit here?' he asked, polite as always.

'Of course,' you smiled and shuffled over a bit to make more room for him. He carefully placed his cup on the table and smoothed down his kimono before he sat down next to you.

'I stole a new game today if you want to try it out later,' Shalnark said, 'Since we beat the last one yesterday I figured we'd need a new challenge.'

You gave him a wolfish grin. 'Sounds good. I'm in.'

Then you remembered something, and your grin faded, 'Or not. Just remembered that I have plans with Feitan later.'

'With Feitan? Plans? Really?' Both Shalnark and Kalluto were staring at you like you had just turned blue or sprouted wings.

'At least Feitan has plans for me,' you tried to clarify it, without success. You sighed. 'He offered to train with me. Or rather, he ordered me to train with him. If I'm lucky he'll have forgotten about it by the time he's back, but I doubt it. So, why don't you two start playing and I'll just watch for now. If I survive, I'll give it a go later.'

They had just finished the first part of the game, which seemed very promising, when the door burst open and Phinks and Feitan came in, both looking very pleased with themselves, laughing harshly at something that must have happened during their job.

'A success I take it,' Shalnark said when they came closer, and Phinks grinned and made a thumbs up. 'Boss will be pleased.'

Feitan looked at you, 'You ready?' You nodded and got up from the couch. 'As ready as I'll ever be.'

'You come.'

He started walking towards another door you had not really noticed before, and led you down a number of stairs, then through another long tunnel-like hallway, until you came to a huge empty room. It was like an underground football field, and its existence seemed to defy all natural laws. Feitan threw his coat and bandana in a pile on the rough concrete floor and placed his umbrella on top.

You looked down on your clothes and realized you had unconsciously copied him, wearing soft black pants and a black top. You took the, also black, scrunchie from your wrist and quickly tied your hair up to get it out of your way, then you followed him to the middle of the room.

His eyes glistened behind his hair as his aura flared, and when you went into a half crouch and activated ren, you saw the corners of his mouth tug upwards in what under other circumstances might be considered a smile.

'You ready?'

'Bring it!'
