The bar Shalnark had suggested was not exclusively for nen users, so the clientele was probably mainly nen-less humans, but rumor had it that it was popular among the Hunters, and thus a good choice. Both for having fun and playing bait.
The mirror behind the glass shelves with rows after rows of bottles reflected the bright lamps, turning the actual bar into a pool of light in the otherwise dim place. In the adjoined room there was a number of pool tables as well as several dart boards, and though it was still rather early a fair number of people were already filling the place up.
Moving slowly to get a good look at the people you passed, the three of you made your way to the bar. Quite a few heads turned to follow you, and you wished you could be certain if they did so because they were Hunters, recognizing you, or if they simply liked staring at attractive women.
Machi was as beautiful as ever with her pink hair and ornate soft clothing, Shizuku had swapped her usual long-sleeve for a low-cut black t-shirt that hugged her breasts and tiny waist, and you...well, if the look on Fei's face earlier was anything to go by, then you looked pretty hot in your little black dress.
Shizuku caught the bartender's attention and soon you all had an identical colorful drink in your hands. You clinked your glasses together, 'Cheers,' then simultaneously took a sip through the very pink straws.
'Whoa, that's sweet,' you said, making a face. It was like drinking alcoholic syrup, but you bravely gave it another try.
'Yeah, but it's very pretty isn't it,' Shizu said defensively, holding it up to admire the rainbow effect from the different layers.
'Very pretty,' both you and Machi agreed, then she looked around, her stance just a little too businesslike for a casual Friday night out,
'Let's find a good spot where we can both be seen and get a good overview of the place.'
They decided on a table close to the bar from which they could see the entire main room, letting you sit with your back toward the bar. Fair enough, you thought, they did have more experience with these things. While you sort of wished that you would be lucky and find, or rather be found by the rogue Hunters, part of you just wanted this evening to have nothing to do with Troupe business. To be nothing more than a fun and relaxed night out with your friends, enjoying too many, too sweet drinks.
'I'm still surprised Fei didn't attack Illumi right then and there,' Shizuku said, interrupting you as you were going over some of the things that had happened that night.
'Well, it wasn't like Illumi was going to hurt me. He was actually trying to be helpful in his odd, slightly creepy way,' you pointed out, even as you remembered the look in Feitan's eyes when he had found you that night. 'Considering how exhausted I was, he probably saved my life.'
'Well, it's a good thing Fei kept his cool. Even if we ignored how Kallu would feel about it, taking on the Zoldycks would be a bad idea. Especially right now.'
'Yeah, they are pretty impressive,' you said, 'I mean I've only met three of them, and two are just kids, but they're really strong.'
'I think that feeling is mutual,' Machi pointed out. 'Danchou has fought their father twice and survived, but it took him much more effort than he usually puts into a fight. And I've heard that Silva has asked all his kids to stay away from any assignments or contracts involving us. Apparently, we're too much of a hassle.'
Both you and Shizuku laughed,
'Well, I'd say that some of us might be more of a hassle than others,' Shizu said taking another sip, 'But it is weird that we're almost in an alliance with them at the moment.'
