[This oneshot is dedicated to the radiant Dragonqueen1215, thank you so much for your continued support. I've never written for Piers before, but I hope you enjoy this!]
Y/n sighed, cursing under her breath. She'd been in the store for less than 20 minutes, and now it was pouring with rain. Part of her smiled at the warm smell, watching the concrete soak up the water. Unfortunately, most of her was massively pissed.
She looked down at the bags of groceries on her arm, and the umbrella hidden somewhere in the pile. There would be no way she could comfortably carry the umbrella and her mountain of shopping. So, they let out another sigh, leaning against the wall, setting her bags down. She dug in her pocket for a minute, before popping a lollipop in her mouth. Her gaze flickered out to the world beyond the veranda keeping her dry, the rain bringing her a sense of calm.
That's when she noticed him. When he stepped outside, their eyes were drawn to the pops of pink in his outfit, drawing a soft smile from her. Until their eyes met. Her face lit up red, quickly directing her gaze back to the concrete.
He's the only person out here, maybe..?
Taking a deep breath, they steeled themselves, preparing to ask him to help. "Hey-"
"Do you want some help with those?"
Y/n covered her face with her hands, nodding with a huffed laugh. "Yes... Yes please." She gave him a grin, letting him pick up some of her bags, freeing up her hand to hold the umbrella between them. He gave them a small nod, and the pair set off, the sudden thumping of rain against the umbrella giving Y/n a small fright.
They totally weren't jumpy from being so close to some guy she'd never met. Of course not.
Awkwardly, her eyes darted to his face, his eyes looking straight ahead. Their tongue flicked over her lips, clearing her throat, trying to break the silence. "Thank you for helping me with this..?"
"Piers."
"Ah, thank you for helping me Piers." She beamed, his mere presence making her feel fuzzy, soft in way. He cracked a smile, looking at her from under his hair.
"It's no problem, mate." She giggled in response, a fuzzy feeling filling her chest.
"I'm Y/n! I'd shake your hand but, um... yeah. Are you from around here? I don't think I've seen you before!"
"No, I'm from Spikemuth."
"Oh, I've always wanted to visit there! Is it nice?"
"I think so, it's a little quiet." Y/n nodded, the pair falling back into a comfortable silence until they reached her front door.
"Here we are! Come in, come in." Before Piers could reject the offer, they ushered him inside, dropping her umbrella on the porch to dry. She bustled around the kitchen a moment, putting down her share of the bags on the kitchen island. Piers followed suit, Y/n pointing him towards a stool. "Sit, sit! What do you drink? I've got tea, coffee, I might have some juice around here somewhere..."
"Tea is fine, thanks." They grinned, flicking the kettle on, leaning on the opposite bench.
"So, what brings you to our humble little town?"
"Oh, I'm looking for someone called... hang on..." He pulled his phone from his back pocket, looking through his notes. "Angelica Sirena. You don't know where I can find them, do you?" Y/n chuckled, sliding a mug of tea to him, leaning over the island.
"You've come to the right place! Angel is my older sister." Piers slowly sipped his tea, face barely betraying his surprise, a small smile forming.
"That's lucky."
"It is! She'll be home soon, but the storm might keep her a little longer than usual. Can't have her hair getting wet, after all!" They giggled, taking a seat beside him, her own mug clutched in her hand. "So, what did you want with my big sis?"
"She's selling me a mic stand. I said I'd come pick it up, save her the trouble." Y/n's face lit up, stars in her eyes as she set her mug down.
"You play music? That's awesome! Anything I'd know?" He shrugged, hands wrapped around the mug, absorbing it's warmth.
"Maybe." Y/n smiled, leaning on the island.
"Could you sing something? Maybe I'd recognise it." With a small nod, and a deep breath, Piers began to sing.
"The only thing a humble singer can do, is sing a humble song. Maybe I can't cheer someone on just with the tunes I play. Maybe I can't make anyone happy. Maybe I can't help. But still the only thing I can do is sing-- sing my humble song."
Y/n was spellbound, staring at him in wonder.
"Wow, your voice is... wow..."
"Thanks."
They smiled at each other for a moment, before returning to their respective drinks. They spoke up every so often, but enjoying the silence. They were talking about one topic or another, when the front door cracked open, keys jingling in the lock. "Hey, kiddo- Oh, hey, you must be Piers." The figure smiled, walking over to shake his hand. She was markedly taller than her younger sibling, with electric blue hair. She grinned down at him. "I'll go get the stand for ya."
Angel walked off into the house, strong footsteps echoing through the hall, leaving the pair alone in the kitchen again. Y/n stretched, turning her attention to the window. "Looks like the rain is starting to ease up, at least. So..." They pursed their lips, looking at him. "You'll be headed out pretty soon, huh?" Piers looked out the window as well.
"Looks like it." Silence fell again, awkward, but soft, nervous in a sweet way. Like someone should say something, but what do you say? "Hey, if you ever come by Spikemuth, hit me up. I'll be around." She visibly brightened.
"Of course, I will! Here..." They bounced out of the stool, grabbing a magnetic notepad off the fridge and quicky scrawling her number (with a little heart for good measure). "Let's keep in touch, ok?" She tore the paper off, holding it out to him. He smiled, slipping the paper in his pocket.
Angelica walked back in, back under her arm. "You're all good to set this up, right? 'Cause I don't think I've got the instructions anymore."
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Angel flashed him a grin, setting the bag down in front of him, crossing her arms.
"Good. And hey, if you need anything else, I'll send Y/n 'round."
"Shut up!" Y/n hissed, shoving their older sister, face breaking into an embarrassed blush. Piers cast his gaze down, blushing a little as well, before standing from his seat. He swung the bag over his shoulder.
"I should get going."
"O-Oh, ok... Wait-" Y/n quickly went into her cupboard, filling a tupperware container with a few muffins, pressing it into his hands. "Snacks, f-for the road!"
"Huh, thank you." He accepted it gingerly. "I'll bring your container back."
"Nonsense. I'll come and pick it up! Just text me whenever you're free, and I'll come over!" Y/n bounced a little, before noticing and dialling it back. "S-Sorry." They clasped their hands behind her back, giving him a sheepish smile. "I know I can be a bit much."
"It's fine." From anyone else, it would've felt dismissive, but the warmth in his voice made her heart jump a little. She walked with him to the door, a bounce returning to her step.
"Then, I'll see you again soon, Piers!"
"See you soon, Y/n."
They stood at the front door for a while longer, watching him walk to the end of the driveway. The rain had become less than a drizzle. He turned, giving her a wave before he started down the street. Y/n smiled, waving back before she closed the door. She smiled softly at the ground, the doors lock clicking shut.
When they looked up, Angel was leaning against the counter, taking a sip of her drink with a smirk. "He seems nice."
"SHUT UP!"
