In which the Snake of Ketterdam is dragged into a horrible plan, intending to kidnap a saint herself. And in which everything that can go wrong, does go wrong.

Diena Fahey, half Kaelish, half Zemeni. She was born in Noyvi-Zem but she was made in Ketterdam. Everything she had to owed to the dark streets, everything she was she owed to Ketterdam.
Leaving Noyvi-Zem was hard and sometimes she regretted it but she had built something for herself in the Barrel, where her father and brother thought she was traveling across Kribirsk.
She fought and clawed for her life, tried her best to avoid being sold to a brothel or picked off the streets. But what she quickly realised was that even if you did survive the Barrel, you were never free.
To most people, even the thought of living in the dark part of Ketterdam filled them with fear and even if they did have to live there then they would be indebted to people higher than them.
Diena wouldn't allow that to happen to her.
After her first day in the Barrel she promised to never submit to anyone ever again, and she kept that promise in the form of her business which she had built with the very few people that she trusted.
And everyone else quickly learnt that the Snake of Ketterdam wasn't going to be scared off easy.
