Chapter Two
It All Started With Oreos
“She's the girl that no one ever knows. And I say hi, but she's too shy to say hello. She's just waiting for that one to take her hand and shake her up…I bet I could…"
I smiled as my fingers strummed the strings of my guitar. Kale was sitting beside me, singing, while I provided him with the background music. Hyde had gone off to the grocery store to buy some snacks and Kale was too lazy to lift his ass off the chair, so he chose to stay home with me instead.
Not that I minded; he’s a really cool guy…when he’s not annoying the crap out of me.
“I wish my heart was always on her mind. Cause she's on mine like all day, all the time. Forget me not, forget me now. I’ve come too far to turn around. I’m here tonight," I sang next.
“Cause I'm never going down, I'm never giving up. I'm never gonna leave, so put your hands up. If you like me, then say you like me. I'm never going down, I’m never giving up. I’m never gonna leave, so put your hands up. If you like me, then say you like me,” we sang, together. My fingers switched over to the C9 cord as we started to sing the next verse.
We continued on like that: him singing one verse, me singing the next, then us singing the chorus together, until my brother came back home with the snacks he had brought.
“You can sing?” asked Hyde, lifting an eyebrow and looking at Kale. He set the snacks down onto the coffee table.
Kale turned a dark shade of red. “Not really. I was just accompanying your sister…”
“That’s not what it sounded like.”
I rolled my eyes. I hate how Kale never likes to admit things. “Oh, he can totally sing; believe me.” I continued to strum to the tune to the rest of the song as Kale said, “Shut up, Jules.”
I stifled a laugh by biting my lower lip.
“So, what did you buy for us?” I asked, setting my guitar aside. Walking on my knees, I reached for the brown bag and took a look inside. My eyes enlarged when I saw a package of double-stuffed Oreos. “For me?” I asked, placing a hand over my heart. “I’m touched.”
“No,” said Hyde, snatching the Oreos away from me.
I pouted.
“It’s for me—duh,” said Kale, taking the Oreos away from Hyde. He sat down as far away from me as possible as he opened it.
I scooted up to him, hands reaching out for the package.
“Hey! Hands off, woman!” Kale turned to the side, his arms protecting the cookies.
“Kale! Stop being such a jackass! You’re supposed to share! Plus, I’m three years younger than you, so that means you have to share with me!”
He frowned. “Last time I checked, there was no such rule like that.”
I glared at Kale and grabbed the nearest object—which was a book—and hit him on the head with it. “Oreos!” I said, angrily pointing at the cookie package he had in his hands.
“Ouch!” Kale rubbed his head and then said, “No!” He tried to lean as far away from me as possible.
“I said give it!”
“Never!” Kale got up and ran towards the front door, me chasing right after him.
“Kale Whatever-your-middle-name-is Johnson! I swear, when I get my hands on you, you will be so freaking—gah!”
