Chapter EIght

"The Magnetizers"

“Wow…I knew I recognized you from somewhere!” Sterling exclaimed, as he smiled at me.

“I know right?” I smiled back at him.

“You two know each other?” asked Ivy, looking between us confusingly.

“Yeah, he’s that one guy I met on the beach,” I explained.

“Oh! That one hottie you were talking about a few days ago?”

I blushed. “I never called him hot,” I muttered.

Sterling looked taken aback. “I’m not hot?” He feigned a hurt facial expression.

“I didn’t mean it that way!” I said, feeling my face flame up.

Leave it to Ivy to embarrass the crap out of me.

“I just…never mind.” I shook my head.

Sterling chuckled before saying, “Well nice job out there! I didn’t know you could sing!”

“Thanks,” I said, feeling my face turn even redder. “Are you auditioning as well?”

Uh, no: he’s just, you know, jaywalking throughout the backstage, a sarcastic voice in my head replied. I can imagine it rolling its eyes.

Shut up! I shouted, internally, to myself.

“Um…I haven’t really said anything, but if you want me to shut up, I guess I’ll have no choice then, right?” said Sterling, giving me a crooked grin.

Oh dear lord, I said that out loud, didn’t I?

I felt my cheeks start to burn again. I can practically imagine steam coming out of it.

“I totally did not mean that!” I spluttered out. “I was talking to myself…”

“She has a tendency to do that,” piped in Ivy. “Don’t you, Jules?”

I turned around and glared at her.

“What?” she asked as she batted her eyelashes at me.

“Can you just please shut up for a moment?” I said, through gritted teeth.

“Nope,” she replied, looking innocently at me.

“Well uh, in response to your question earlier…Yes, I am auditioning,” Sterling quickly said, as he noticed the tension between Ivy and I. “With my two friends.”

“Oh…Well that’s cool,” I said, nonchalantly.

I secretly wondered who the other two people were.

I guess I’ll find that out pretty soon.

“Are you up next?” I asked.

He shook his head. “Me and my friends are number seventy, so there’s still one more band going before us.”

“Oh…”

“Hey Jules, we’re going to head back to our seats,” Hyde called, as I saw him and Kale making their way off the stage.
