Chapter Twenty-Eight
When You Realize It’s Too Late Now
“So you were right—there is a carnival here!” I said, as I got out of the cab.
“Of course; aren’t I always right?” Sterling replied, rather arrogantly.
“You wish.” I rolled my eyes and grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the ticket booth. I gasped when I saw the Ferris wheel behind it.
“Ohmigod, we have to totally go on that!” I shouted, as I pointed to the ride excitedly.
Sterling laughed. “Sure. We can go on it a million times; as long as it you make you happy.”
I started to jump up and down like a lunatic. What can I say? I’m a sucker for Ferris wheels; they are like the best rides ever.
“You’re the best boyfriend ever!” I stated, as I flung myself into his arms.
Sterling staggered back a few steps but then chuckled. “Why thank you: I am, aren’t I?”
Suddenly, I heard a noise that sounded almost like a snort come from behind Sterling. I unclasped my arms from around Sterling’s waist and turned around to see Carson roll his eyes.
I glared at him.
Freaking killjoy. Thanks to him, I don’t even feel happy anymore.
“What’s your problem?” I growled, as I glared at him.
“Can you please keep your thoughts to yourself?” Carson practically snarled back.
“It’s a free country now, isn’t it? I can say whatever I want to say!” I retorted.
“Well not in my world!”
“But I don’t even live in your world, so your argument is therefore invalid!”
“Okay guys, break it up,” said Sterling, anxiously as he put himself between us. There were still a few people in line in front of us, so we’d probably have to stand here for another few minutes or so.
“I’ll do that as long as you keep your girlfriend under control, Sterling,” Carson said coldly.
“Under control? I’ll have you know that I am perfectly under control. Are you sure you’re the one who’s not under control?”
“Okay Jules, maybe you should uh, back off,” said Ivy, as she grabbed my arm and tried to pull me back.
Erving did the same with Carson as well.
“I’ll back off as soon as he backs the fuck off!” I shouted, as I tried to pry my arm from her grip.
“Jules, why not we just uh, go and maybe buy tickets from another booth?” suggested Sterling, as he made a move to take me out of line.
I shook my head. “Why should we? We got here first. If anyone has to leave, then it has to be Carson.”
“Says who?” Carson said.
“Says me and the Law of Whoever-is-in-line-first-before-you!”
“Okay, uh, mind if I go ahead of you? My girlfriend’s in a bit of an argument at the moment, so I may need to drag her out of line before she commits a murder,” said Sterling, as he tapped on the woman’s shoulder in front of us.
The woman smiled understandingly and then gave way to Sterling.
“Thanks.” Sterling went up and brought the tickets. “We can go now, Jules.”
