Chapter Twenty-Six

Do First Dates Always Feel This Awkward?

“I’ve made my decision,” I said, as I stopped pacing the room. After Lola and I had returned back to our room, we had told Ivy everything that had happened. She, of course, wasn’t very surprised, as she did know from the start that Carson had liked me…or so she claimed.

Ivy and Lola looked at me from the bed they were sitting on.

“What did you decide?” asked Ivy.

“I like Sterling and I’m going through with our date tonight,” I said, as I stood defiantly on the ground with my arms crossed over my chest. “I like him and therefore, I should date him.” I ignored my racing heart as I stared furiously at the carpet. I wasn’t lying: everything I said, I meant.

“O-okay, if you’re okay with that,” Ivy stuttered out.

“Just don’t regret it,” warned Lola.

“I won’t,” I said, as I gave them my best smile. “In fact, I’m gonna go to his room right now and tell him.”

“Tell him what? You didn’t tell him anything that happened between Carson and you, right?” asked Ivy, nervously. “Because that’s a big no-no in relationships; you don’t want to break up their friendship or anything.”

“Relax, I wasn’t planning on doing that. Geez, I’m not that heartless.” I rolled my eyes and then threw open the door to the hallway. I raced over to Sterling’s room and knocked a few times.

The door swung open and I found myself standing face-to-face with Erving.

“Um…is Sterling here?” I asked.

Erving smirked. “Duh. How could he not? He’s been jabbering nonstop about your date tonight.”

I blushed. “Yeah, we have a—”

“I’m here!” Sterling exclaimed, as he pushed Erving aside. He was practically bubbling with excitement.

I smiled shyly at him. “You look cute tonight.” He had on a dark blue denim shirt and black skinny jeans. “Sorry I haven’t changed or anything, I was just gonna ask you what time you had wanted to uh, go out?”

“How about tonight at six? I found this really cool dance club a few blocks from we are…are you fine with that?”

“Of course! As long as I’m with you, I’ll be happy,” I said.

Erving made a gagging sound from behind us. I shot him a glare and Erving returned it with a smirk.

“Great, I’ll see you then?” asked Sterling.

“Yeah!” I beamed at him and then made a move to go back towards my room when Erving suddenly said, “Have you seen Carson?”

“I uh, saw him this morning, when Sterling and I were downstairs,” I lied. No need to mention our little fight in the park…

“Oh okay. I haven’t seen him since this morning as well. It’s like what? Three pm right now? I’m starting to feel a bit worried: he’s never been gone for so long without a single text to us.”

“Maybe he’s at the gym or something,” suggested Sterling.

“Yeah…maybe…” Erving narrowed his eyes in thought. “Well, I’ll see you later, Juliet.”
