Chapter Twenty-Five
Am I Your Girlfriend?
Awkward.
That was all I had thought when I bumped into Carson earlier this morning. He had dark circles around his eyes; almost as if he didn’t sleep well last night and his hair was slightly ruffled, which led me to assume that he hadn’t brushed his hair. Speaking of which, I still haven’t gotten used to the sight of him with brown hair. It made him look different and unlike the Carson that I knew.
When he saw me coming out of my hotel room, he immediately stopped walking.
There was a flash of hurt in his eyes as he glanced at me but he quickly averted his eyes when he saw me looking back at him.
I blushed and quickly headed over to the elevator—actually, scratch that. I’ll take the stairs instead. There was no way in hell I was going to take the same elevator as him.
When I got to the bottom floor, I spotted Sterling sitting in the lounge, drinking coffee. He looked up when he heard me entering the room.
I gave him a small smile. “Hey.” I took a seat on the empty armchair beside him.
“Hey,” he said. He put down his coffee and looked at me.
Wow…this was incredibly awkward. Was this supposed to happen after a first kiss? I was a bit disappointed yesterday in the fact that he never asked me to be his girlfriend or anything. In fact, we said very little after the kiss we had shared.
“Um…” I bit down on my lower lip.
Sterling burst out laughing.
I felt my cheeks warm in embarrassment as I glared at him. “What?”
“N-nothing!” he spluttered. “You just—I mean, everything feels so awkward.”
I couldn’t help but smile a little. “That’s true…” My voice trailed off as I looked at him from the corner of my eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, anxiously. He stopped laughing.
“Nothing,” I quickly said. I got up from my seat and then started to make my way out of the room and towards the breakfast buffet.
“Where are you going?”
“Gonna get myself some breakfast,” I replied. “I’m starving.”
“Wait, before you do that!” Sterling quickly got up from his seat and then caught ahold of my hand. “Wanna go somewhere today?”
“Like a date?” I asked, hopefully.
Sterling rolled his eyes. “What do you think?”
I cracked a smile. “I thought you’d never ask.”
“Great,” he said, as I felt his face getting closer and closer to mine.
“If you’re gonna kiss me, then just do it,” I said, giggling.
Sterling blushed. “I just wanted to make sure you were going to be okay with it.”
This time, I rolled my eyes and pulled him right towards me by wrapping both arms around his neck, except, just as our lips were about to touch for the third time, someone behind us suddenly said, “No way!”
Sterling and I quickly broke apart and looked up to see an amused-looking Erving grinning at us.
“Since when did this happen?” He walked in with a big smile on his face as he made a stop in front of us.
