Very clever.

She looked down at her phone, hands shaking. The text was from an unknown number-not a wrong one. She knew that.

The question was, how did he know it was her?

I thought so too.

She couldn't help the sly smile that spread over her features. He had always been fun to tease.

Are you prepared for the war you've just started?

Are you okay?

The truth was, she wasn't, and he knew that, but she didn't have a choice. She had to set things in motion. If she dies before she sees the resolution, so be it.

Where have you been?

Locked up.

Not a good time for jokes.

One day, you'll accept my help.

I hope that day never comes.

It was a lie. She wanted no one else, but she could never admit that. Not to the son of the man she killed.

Why do you hate me so?

If only she could hate him. Hate him because of his family, because he abandoned her when the world went to shit, but she can't hate him not when she loves him still.

Why won't you just leave me alone?
You should hate me.
Why don't you hate me?

I could never hate you.

You know that.

Memories flood her mind.

They had fallen fast and hard that cold winter only a few years ago. Though, after everything that had happened, it felt like another lifetime.

He was just a spoiled brat. She was just depressed, mourning her grandfather's loss, the man that raised her.

They had gotten snowed in at a small shack at the top of the mountain. She was pissed and he wouldn't stop talking and joking around. It had annoyed her-it had made her laugh. Eventually, she gave into his silly games and joined him.

He taught her how to dance and she taught him how to fight. They got close over those few days and she thought that would be it once they got back to the main lodge, but he followed her around like a lost puppy, not that she minded.

He was so silly and flirty and fun. She couldn't remember the last time she had fun, so she gave in to his charm.

They spent the rest of that trip together and during that time, she found her new favorite hobby, making him blush.

She would call him baby and run her hands over his skin. She'd obviously check him out, and she knew just where and when to flirt to get the best reaction. She loved to whisper in his ear when he was in front of others. She would put her hand on his knee or thigh under the dinner table.

Their relationship slowly became more than friends joking, and neither of them seemed to want to slow down.

He wasn't ready the day that she'd pulled him into the room and kissed him, but he adjusted, quickly taking the lead.

Everything with him was exciting and fun. He made her happy. He listened to her. He helped her heal after the loss of her grandfather, but all good things eventually come to an end.
