A sharp repetitive tapping on the window startled her awake. Emma sprung out of bed, pulling her sword out from the scabbard laying against her dresser. The tapping persisted, as she approached her window,  opening it and ready to cleave whatever enemy dared pester her.

The crow fluttered in.

"You!?"

The crow hopped onto the floor and ruffled its wings, cocking his head at her and whistling.

"How did you find me?" Emma sat on her knees, looking over the bird. The crow blinked its eyes at her and imitated her whistle.   "Hello!"

"Yes, hello." She whistled and crossed her arms. "You're not supposed to be in here. This is my house."

The crow whistled at her again. "My house!"

"No, my house." Emma pointed to herself. "Not yours. You live outside in the trees."

"My house!"

"No! Not your house! Mine!"

The crow whistled again. "My house!" It hopped into her lap and laid a stone on her legs.

"For me?" She picked up the stone.

"Hello!" The crow fluttered his wings.
