December 1st

In my almost-six-year-old world, Disney is the most magical place, and I can't think of anything better for my birthday. I found Mommy in the kitchen and asked her, "Can we really go to Disney for my birthday?" I really wanted to meet the princesses and Mickey Mouse. Mommy seemed to think about it a lot and said, "We'll see what we can do," which made me hopeful.

Then Daddy walked in, looking super busy with Brielle and Seraphina, but I just had to ask him too about Disney. When I did, he looked at Mommy, and they did that silent talk grown-ups do. I pretended to walk away but sneaked back to listen.

Hiding near the door, I heard them talk. Daddy was saying it's not just about money but about making my birthday feel special and how to manage with my sisters. They talked about making the trip fun for everyone. I pressed my ear closer, trying to catch every word, my heart jumping each time they mentioned Disney.I really, really hope we go to Disney. I want my sixth birthday to be the best ever, with princesses, castles, and all the magic I've dreamed about!

As I was eavesdropping, Lola suddenly came toddling up, her little feet almost giving away my secret spot. Quickly, I pulled her to me and gently covered her mouth, her eyes wide with confusion. I whispered, "Shh, Lola, we have to be quiet. Guess what? We might go to Disney for my birthday!" Her confusion turned to excitement, and she nodded, understanding the need for secrecy in our little mission to gather information.

Just as I finished whispering to Lola, Mommy walked past us, busy with something in her hands and deep in thought. She didn't even notice us tucked away in our little hiding spot. Lola and I exchanged glances, trying hard to stifle our giggles at our successful stealthiness.

Suddenly, Daddy's voice echoed from the kitchen, "Jenn, can you come here? Brielle spit up." Mommy quickly turned around and hurried back to the kitchen to help, completely unaware of Lola and me still hidden and watching the whole scene unfold.

After Mommy and Daddy cleaned up Brielle, Lola and I sneaked away to check on Nadine. She was awake in her crib, just looking around quietly. When she saw us, her eyes lit up. Lola, being the caring sister she is, climbed into the crib to cuddle Nadine, handling her with such tenderness. But then, Nadine, curious as ever, grabbed a handful of Lola's hair. I quickly acted, unlocking the crib to help Lola out before she could get upset or cry out, which would alert Mommy and Daddy that we were in Nadine's room without them knowing. I gently freed Lola's hair from Nadine's grasp, making sure both were okay and still quiet.

Lola looked at me, her expression a mix of confusion and surprise because everything happened so quickly. She didn't understand why Nadine grabbed her hair or why I was in such a hurry to get her out of the crib. Then, seeking comfort, she held out her arms to me. Despite being only a bit taller than her, I managed to pick her up. It was a bit of a struggle because we're both so short, but I did it, holding her close to make sure she felt safe and secure after the little scare.

I made sure Nadine's crib was secure, then carried Lola to my room. When we got there, Violet, who's three, was surrounded by her Barbies, completely absorbed in her play. She looked up with big, hopeful eyes and asked in her sweet voice, "Play Barbies?" She held out a Barbie to us, clearly wanting some company in her imaginative adventures.

Lola and I exchanged a quick smile before nodding enthusiastically to Violet. "Yes, let's play!" I said, and we both sat down, joining her in the Barbie world she had created. We were soon lost in the game, dressing up the dolls and inventing stories for them. While we were playing, I saw Daddy, Mommy, and the nanny walking by the doorway. Daddy was holding Brielle, and Mommy had Seraphina in her arms. They were talking quietly, probably about taking care of my baby sisters. They glanced in our room, saw us playing, and smiled before continuing on their way.
