"Phil, we have a problem" I watched as he sat down "it's actually more than a problem were fucking screwed, Scampanelli is pissed"
It had been a week since the IRS ran their audit and I think we're in the clear with them but not with our boss.
"They didn't find anything, so no harm no foul, right?" Phil asked, he was definitely just a pretty face the kid was dumb as a box of rocks.
"They didn't find anything because Scampanelli moved shit around or paid someone off, but you know he thinks we ratted him out" I could feel my blood pressure rising, "I'm getting my family out of Illinois and I suggest you do the same"
He thought for a minute "what about mom and dad?"
"They're leaving too, headed somewhere warm" I tell him, not me I'm taking my family to England, I'm hoping it will be far enough.
"What about Kim, is she safe? Does she even know?" Phil asks, as stupid as he can be he always has everyone's best interest at heart "shouldn't we tell her?"
He's probably right, but I'm hoping us being distant is in her best interest, that Scampanelli doesn't even know she exists "we stay away from her, hopefully they don't know about her"
"If you say so"
I hope I'm making the right decision, but I'm afraid if I reach out to Kim now, I will lead Scampanelli to her doorstep.
That wouldn't be good for anyone.
