"My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body."

-Proverbs 4:20-22

Comment:

There is something that fascinates me about these verses. Proverbs is a book filled with so much wisdom, but when I read this verse again, it stayed with me. Scripture is telling us that the word of the Lord brings life to the weary soul and health to the whole body.

We know it to be true that words have a powerful effect on our minds and beings. Scripture also tells us that. Words have the power to change the way we see ourselves; they have the power to change the way we feel about ourselves. They can bring happiness, sadness, confusion, peace, anxiety, hope, etc. It's also a well-known fact that what we believe about ourselves can affect our physical bodies. When a person is joyful, you can see it in the brightness of their eyes and the size of their smile. When a person is anxious---well---just Google common anxiety symptoms and you have your answer.

But what I like so much about these verses, is that they are words of truth that promise life and health to not just PARTS of the body, but to the WHOLE body. The mind doesn't get healed while the soul still aches. The WHOLE body becomes healthy when words of life are spoken over and into it. That's how good our God is! God loves and cares for us so much that when the ways of the world get too heavy and we start feeling anxious and depressed, He says, 'read My words and be healed. Listen for my voice and be renewed.'

When we actually do allow His words of life to permeate our beings, we are healed where we needed that healing. We find a peace that makes no sense and we are renewed.
