Luke knew that it was inevitable.

Audrey disappeared without a trace and without a single goodbye, all over again. She ran away from her parents, her town, and most of all, she ran away from Luke, who couldn't help but blame himself. He could have gone with her. She asked him to, but he refused. They could have ran away together and lived the rest of their lives in the city, but that could never happen now. She was gone.

Luke went to school, not talking or even listening to anyone. He didn't care about anything or anyone. All that Luke wanted to do was find Audrey, but how could he? There were no secret messages or clues as to where she went. Luke knew he would have to learn to live without Audrey, he just didn't want to.

After about a week, Luke started to try to forget about Audrey. He paid attention in most of his classes, avoided all of the places that he went to with Audrey, and even sat at a different lunch table than usual.

One day at lunch, the girl with long blonde hair and big brown eyes sat next to Luke. Luke thought she was very pretty, but not as pretty as Audrey. He didn't mind the company, though.

Taking out his earphones, he gave the girl a weak smile. "Hey, Samantha."

"You can call me Sam," she smiled warmly. "You seem sad. What's wrong?"

Luke contemplated telling her about what happened with Audrey, but he decided against it.

"Just missing a friend, but I'll be okay," he replied.

"That's good," she said. "Are you doing anything today?"

Luke shook his head. "Why, what's up?"

With her cheeks beginning to blush, she looked down at her hands. "Well, since you couldn't make it to that party, I wanted to know if you wanted to come over my house? I just bought some new movies and I thought it would be cool if we, well, if we-"

"Sure, sounds fun," Luke interrupted, thinking that the blonde girl was actually kind of cute when she was flustered.

He seemed to have a new found confidence with girls because of Audrey. Something about him was now attracting girls to Luke, whether it was his mysterious attitude or his confident dorkiness. Whenever he was in the halls, he couldn't help but notice girls looking at him a little too long as he walked by them. In his classes, some girls even went as far as to start a conversation with him.

Luke, still heartbroken over Audrey, didn't show much emotion when talking to these girls, but that seemed to make them even more interested in him. Luke thought it was weird, but he didn't mind. Secretly, he liked the attention.

"Luke, your eyes are so blue!" Ellie Edwards exclaimed one day in Biology. "I wish my eyes were that blue."

"Yeah, well, genetics." he chuckled, awkwardly.

"Oh my gosh, you're right! Luke, you're so smart." she giggled, but Luke only rolled his eyes.

Luke tried not to get annoyed with the girls that flirted with him so obnoxiously, but some of them were just too much. That was why he didn't mind Samantha. She was very sweet, and she didn't throw herself at Luke whenever she had the chance.

At the end of the day, Luke met Samantha at her locker and followed her to the parking lot. They got into her car and drove to her house, which was surprisingly large considering Samantha was an only child.

Luke looked around her house and was surprised by how clean and organized it was. After walking down the hall to her living room, Samantha told him to sit down while she got the movies. Luke obliged and sat down, waiting for Samantha to return. When she finally did, she held up two movies.

"Forrest Gump or Napoleon Dynamite?" she asked him, and Luke smiled.

"The fact that this is the selection of movies that you've provided makes me extremely happy," he laughed. "But Napoleon for sure."

Samantha smiled, then put in the movie and sat down next to Luke.

"Oh, and I have these," Samantha said, then pulled out a giant package of sour watermelons.

"No way, these are my favorite. How did you manage to buy my favorite movies and my favorite candy all in the same day?" Luke questioned jokingly, but there was a type of seriousness behind his tone.

"I truthfully had no idea. I guess we just have a lot in common," she smiled, which she seemed to do a lot around Luke.

Twenty minutes into the movie, Samantha moved towards Luke until he wrapped his arm around her. Also, they had already eaten the whole bag of sour watermelons, and they were starting to feel a little sick to their stomachs.

Luke and Samantha laughed at all of the same times. At the times that they weren't laughing, Luke was admiring Samantha's features. Whenever Luke wasn't paying attention, Samantha was admiring his features. Eventually, Luke and Samantha looked at each other at the same time, and the inevitable happened. They kissed each other, not passionately, but sweetly, then they continued watching the movie.

When it was finally over, it was five o'clock, and Luke had to go home.

"I had a great time," he told Samantha, then brought her in for a hug.

"Maybe we can do it again some time?" she asked.

"Sure," he replied, but he couldn't help but think about Audrey and how mad she'd be if she found out that Luke was practically just on a date with another girl.

Actually, Luke wanted her to be mad. Luke wanted Audrey to realize that she couldn't just disappear and think that nothing would change while she was gone. She couldn't just break Luke's heart and then act like everything was fine when she came back. For all he knew, she could have met a new boy already.

He didn't know if he really liked Samantha or not, but he simply just wanted to forget about Audrey because he didn't know when the next time he would see her would be. What Luke didn't know was that she was going to be gone a lot longer than he thought she would be.
