“Why?”

I kept looking down at my food while I spoke. “Well.” I started. “You called me, and you were drunk, I was worried, and since it didn’t seem like you called anyone else I came and did the responsible thing. I picked you up, and brought you to my place.”

“Okay, why didn’t you just leave me?” He asked.

“Why would I? As much as you hate me, I don’t hate you enough to leave you drunk and passed out at subway.”

He took another bite out of pancakes before answering. “No, you could have called one of the boys or my sister, but you didn’t, I don’t get it.”

I sighed; nothing would ever be good enough for this boy. “I figured if you did call them you would have regretted it and got into trouble. I’m not this terrible person you know? I don’t hate you as much as you hate me.”

            “I don’t hate you.”

I nearly choked on my food. This was surprising to me; it would even be surprising to everyone else.

“Yeah you have a funny way of showing it Vince.” I shook my head.

He smiled. He actually stopped and smiled, it wasn’t a forced smile, but an actual smile. It made him look drop dead gorgeous. If only he wore it more often.

“Thank you, I mean it.” He took our plates and put them in the sink.

“Don’t, i'l wash those, go home and get a shower, it’s almost seven the boys will want us over there soon.”

I walked over to where he stood and watched him turn around to face me.

“Actually would you mind if I just used your shower, I have enough clothing at Kaden’s house to last me an eternity.”

“Sure, go for it, and then when you’re done we can head over.” I nodded as I started doing the dishes.

He walked away finding the bathroom upstairs. It wasn’t hard to miss; he could easily find it on his own. Within a few minutes I heard the shower start, he found it. After I finished putting the dishes away he came down shortly after. He looked refreshed, but this time a weird look was plastered on his face.

            “What’s wrong?” I asked.

            “You have a little brother?”

I guess it would seem fishy since they had seen my mother and I, but never my brother. I frowned at the thought, if how Daniel would have loved to meet everyone. How he would have a crush on Kate, and how he would torture Kaden and his brothers.

“Hey I asked about your brother Mel?” He stood just below the steps looking at me.

“Sorry, it’s just he died a few years back, how did you know?”

“I walked into your room by accident and seen that picture by your bed, I couldn’t help but to wonder why I hadn’t seen him.”

“Yeah, he has been gone for almost five years now, his name was Daniel.”

I pushed past him to grab my bag in my room; I opened my door and held back my tears. I looked at the photo we had taken once again, until I heard a small creak. I quickly turned around blinking away my tears, and looked at Vince standing in the doorway. His arms were folded while he leaned against the doorway, looking at me.

“I’m sorry I brought it up, I didn’t know, I’m sorry for your loss Mel, I shouldn’t have assumed anything like I did before.” He murmured.

It wasn’t really his fault; he didn’t know what I had been through. He wouldn’t expect that, he wouldn’t expect me to introduce myself either and tell him about my past either. Daniels death wasn’t even the end of my problems, but he wouldn’t know that either. I quickly recollected myself and smiled.

“It’s fine, you didn’t know, we both assumed the worst about each other. I do want to start over again though, I want to be friends, and not hate each other.”

He looked like he considered this for a moment, and smiled. “Yeah, I would like that.”

“Good.” I replied. “But we should head out now, before they think we went missing and come rampaging through my house.”

He smiled again, “Yeah lets head out.”

We left with that, and I couldn’t help but feel better. Apparently him getting drunk today wasn’t the worst idea he had. We exited my house and walked straight across the street. Before Vince could even knock on the door Kaden had already answered the door. It was like he was always standing by the door just waiting for us.

When Kaden had opened the door he looked surprised to see Vince and I standing there, together, on his porch. It didn’t click in my head that everyone still thought we hated each other’s guts until Kaden spoke up.

“Guys look at this, do you see this??? They are less than two inches apart, and not killing each other! Come quick!” Kaden started yelling.

“Dude, just let us in, we’re cool now, no hard feelings.” Vince said while brushing past Kaden.

“Yup we made up, now can I come in or do I only get to stand on the porch?” I started.

Kaden then grabbed my bag and put it in the guest room for me, while leading me to his basement. I quickly ran down the steps and joined Vince with the only other open seat available.

Meanwhile Kate looked up and smiled, she was wearing her hair in a bun, with sport shorts on and a loose shirt. We practically had the same outfit on, and I was glad I wasn’t the only one who dressed like a bum. She held up four movies, in which I squinted to read the titles. So far they had, White Chicks, which was probably Kate’s choice, The Avengers, and two other movies I had never watched before.

I smiled and nodded my head in approval, as I sat next t Vince.

“So you guys don’t hate each other now?” Matt gestured at the two of us.

“Yeah we talked it out, it’s all good now.” I said.

Everyone got seated, and then came the argument.

“I want to watch Avengers first!” Kate squealed.

Well who the hell picked out White Chicks? Oh this would be good.

“No I want to watch White Chicks!” Zach shouted.

That was a shocker. Vince and I both started laughing after everyone had joined the argument. While everyone decided to fight over which movie to pick, I left to get some popcorn. I walked into their kitchen, and it was huge, but again amazing. I walked over to their microwave and sure enough on top of it was a box popcorn lying on top. I opened three packages and started popping the first one. While I stood there in my own thoughts someone’s hands were placed on my waist.
