Candy Land Life

We follow the white paved road,
The one that's stained and yellowed.
We toss our rocks
And then We hop.
And count our steps as we go.

Square by square.
Throw by throw.
Two sides of the road
In this Candy Land walk.

The sea of ashfault
and oozing black tar
Have separated us this far,
And though there's an island oasis
That if we tried to cross
Just might have saved us,
We stuck to the boardwalk
Our unending hopscotch.

Now our tiles have shifted us 45 degrees,
Turned towards each other with our backs to the trees
The toss of our rocks leads
Us to stepping into the street.

Will we survive the walk cross the sea?
The one that's cracked and ripples with heat?
'Cause the little white walking man
Is now a numbered, flashing hand,

We toss our rocks,
And they meet in the middle of the street.
So we further our steps in faith,
And pray that an unlucky landing
Won't be the cause of our fate.

Now here we stand,
The two of us on a dotted line.
The very last square in Candy Land.

The game is over, it's time to move on.
And up pulls a little blue car, and we both hop in.
You, at the wheel, and I'm riding shot gun.

And between us lies a rainbow wheel,
Round with fortune and numbered to ten.
The speed we travel is a lottery,
So I grab hold of the middle, and give it a spin.

And we drive off into the sunset,
Traveling, and landing,
On a little white space
One that's been paved,
And covered in hand written words.

And so it begins.
The old things have passed away,
For we have finished the candy land game,
And now this move is where we decide,
If we will continue this game of life.

Will we spin the wheel together?
Will we spin the wheel alone?

We'll spin it together, even when we're apart,
'Cause if you hadn't noticed, we have only one car.
And I'm not fond of having to walk so far.
To reach the end of life's game.
So in this candy land life, together we'll stay.
