"You..."

The bartender looks up but obviously doesn't recognize me. "Do I know you?" He asks. Way to seem like a crazy person Emma. "No, I just saw you at a cafe yesterday" I laugh at an attempt to play it off.
"Oh" he says raising his eyebrow.
So this is the guy my best friend is in love with? David was it? I have to text her.
I turn back to Killian and he nods towards a table and we walk over. "What do you think?" Killian asks referring to the bar."It's nice. I like the ambiance" I say. The place is nice. It is basically half a restaurant and half bar. Either way it is nearly empty at this time of day.
He laughs "As do I. So, tell me about yourself Emma" he says, obviously unaware that I hate sharing things about my life...especially on the first date.
I can't come up with anything to say and he says "You know what? Let me guess. You work full time here in the city. Your job is stressful but you enjoy it. You don't have lots of family here and you are naturally defensive. See? You're an open book love"
I raise by eyebrow at his last comment. "And you drive a black Mercedes" He adds, clearly pleased with his prediction.
"Wrong. I drive a Yellow Beetle" it's my turn to smirk. He rolls his eyes. "Fine. I was wrong about that one thing but the rest was spot on wasn't it?" After I don't answer he adds "You have your walls up but you know what, love? I will break them down. You'll fall for me" He smirks. "Consider that a promise."

My breath hitches when he says "promise". People in my life have broken too many promises so why would I believe him. "I doubt that" I say confidently.
He looks at me and shrugs "We'll see" then ushers the bartender over. "Hey Dave can we get some drinks please? I'll have rum and for the lady..." he looks at me waiting for me to say what I want.
"I'll have rum too. Thanks." I say. David nods and starts pouring the drinks. "Rum? First woman I met that orders rum for lunch" he says. "Surprised are we? I thought you had me all figured out?" I say sarcastically.

David comes over with our drinks and I take a sip. It burns my throat at first but I get used to it. Drinking wasn't uncommon for me when I was dating Neal. We used to always steal whiskey. That was his drink of choice. I'll never drink whiskey. I frown at the memory.
"Emma?" Killian asks snapping me out of my trance. I shake my head "Sorry. I was lost in thought. So, Killian. Why'd you pick this bar? Of all places?" I ask interested on how he has such a close connection to the place.
"My brother Liam and I actually owned this bar together a couple of years back but he passed away last year. After that I didn't want anything to do with the place. Too many memories. But David convinced me it was worth keeping and it was a way to keep Liam's legacy going. Since he was, and still is, my best friend I decided David would be the perfect man to help me out." he nods towards David who is still behind the counter.

"How did he die?" I ask before I can stop myself. "Alas, there are somethings I don't share on the first date as well" he says quietly. "I understand" I say and take his hand and squeeze it lightly, giving him an assuring smile that he returns back.
After we finish our drinks, we walk out of the Heart and the Huntsman.
