Promise

Lunch

I drive to Henry's school, park and walk inside to sign him out.
"Hey Henry" I say when he walks out the door
"Hey mom! How was your day?" He asks with a smile
Uh well I asked two men out on a date... At the same time
"Good so far"
We get in the car and Henry immediately turns up the radio. I pull out of the parking lot and turn it down.
"Where to kid?" I ask him "I'm starving" I add with a laugh
"Granny's" Henry says in a "duh" tone
"Henry I already told you I'm an Orphan" I say slowly at an attempt to make a joke
Henry tries to laugh but it ends up as a small chuckle.
"So was school so far?" I ask
"Good I guess I aced my English Quiz!" Henry says proudly
"Nice job see it's good I reminded you to study" I remind him
"Ya I guess" he says looking out of the window
Hm I Should ask about his cute crush on Violet but I can't make it obvious...
"How's Violet?" I ask Henry getting his attention

"Great today she ..." He starts rambling on about Violet and how perfect she is
Things aren't serious between them two right?
Of course not there so young and they haven't even been on a date yet
"When are you two going out" I ask Henry
"I'm not sure maybe sometime next week" he says unsure
Is it sad that your teenage son has more of a love life than you?
Shut up
"What did I say?" Henry says all of a sudden
Did I say that out loud?!
"Oh nothing" I laugh awkwardly and Henry looks at me weirdly
"We're here" I pull up to Granny's and we walk in 
We find a table and sit down
"Hey Ruby , the usual please" I say Ruby walks over
"One burger, one grilled cheese, and two cokes" Ruby recites
"Thanks Ruby" Henry says and Ruby walks away
"So Henry... I ran into someone recently" I start
"Quite literally" I add "and I have a date with him tomorrow. Actually it's a double date with Mary Margret and his friend"
Henry nods "what's his name?"
"Killian Jones" I say cooly
At least I thought I did
"You blushed mom!" Henry says surprised
"No I..I did not!" I say feeling my cheeks heat up
"Here's your food" Ruby interrupts
After saying thanks again she walks away and there's an awkward silence
"Mom...go for it" Henry says suddenly "have fun and if something good comes out of it like a relationship or something , even better. Cause mom , you deserve it." He takes up my hand and squeezes it
"Thanks kid" is all I could get out without tearing up "I love you"
"I love you too mom" he smiles "now let's eat" he starts digging in and I do to
Best son ever
And now that I have his blessing there's only one thing to do
"Mom I'm gonna go to the restroom" he says getting up
"Ok kid"
I pull out my phone when he leaves and start typing

Hey Killian it's Emma. How's tomorrow at eight?
I go over to Mary Margarets contact and send her a text

Hey how are you? I texted Killian if we can go out on a double date tomorrow at eight. Is that good with you?

Oh my goodness! Really?! That's perfect. We have to get ready together. I'll be at your house at 6.

I look up and Henry is sliding back into his seat
"You ready kid?" I ask him getting out plates to the side
"Do I have to back to school?"Henry asks flashing a smile with puppy dog eyes
"Actually yes, don't you have a US history test?"
"Um.. Okay let's go" Henry laughs
"Don't worry I'll help you study on the way to back to school" I say
"Thanks mom" Henry replies
