When Killian and I arrive at my apartment we both carry a couple of bags and head up. When we reach my floor we get out of the elevator and I knock on the big mahogany door that has 815 in gold numbers on it. I remember Henry is still at school so I put down the bags and open the door with my keys.

When we enter I lead Killian to the kitchen and we place all the bags on top of the kitchen table. "So, what will we start with?" Killian asks. I spin around to face him "Nope there is no 'we' I said I will be cooking", I say putting emphasis on the I. He mocks hurt and places his hand over his heart "After all we've been through Swan. How could you do this to me?" I roll my eyes "Ha Ha I think you can bare it. It's my turn to show you how good I can cook." Killian raises his eyebrow but says nothing. "What?" I ask and he says "Well from what Henry has told me, it may be better if I cook". I walk around him and start taking things out of one of the bags and mutter "I'm gonna kill that kid." Killian laughs and says "Take it easy on the lad".

I glare at him and take out more stuff out of the bag. I can cook. Right? Well, there is only one way I can prove him wrong. "Okay, Killian. Let's make this interesting. A cooking competition. We will both make a pizza and Henry will judge and the winner can rest knowing they are the better cook. What do you say?" I say raising my eyebrow challenging him. "Okay, Swan lets do it. And when I win, make sure you do not too upset love." I roll my eyes and say "We'll see".

We put all the ingredients on the counter and I look at Killian. "Ready?" He nods and I say "May the best cook win". I grab dough and spread it, making sure to add flour underneath. Killian, however, had not thought of that and his dough starts to stick to the counter. I chuckle and he says "You are making me nervous Swan". I shrug and say " What? You can't handle some competition?" He looks up and his eyes bore into mine. HIs dark eyes challenge my light ones. His intense stare sends a shiver down my spine.I look away quickly. He shakes his head, looks back down, and continues.

I add sauce and cheese when I remember who I am cooking for: Henry. I have the advantage of knowing exactly what he likes. I start to stuff the crust with cheese when Killian looks over at me. "Hey! No looking. That's cheating Killian!" He raises his eyebrow and I move over to block the pizza so he can't see it and he laughs. "I didn't know you were so competitive Swan". I smile and finish stuffing the crust. I move just enough to finish but I make sure my body is still covering the pizza. We can't have Killian winning now, can we?  I know Henry doesn't like onions on his pizza and hates olives so I don't add those. I finish and nod proudly at my pizza.

Killian finishes as well and we put our pizzas in the oven. "So, what now?" I ask looking at the clock in the kitchen. "Now we wait. When is Henry coming home?" I look at the clock. "He finishes school in about 25 min." I tell Killian and he asks "Want to surprise him and pick him up? He'll probably enjoy it more than riding the bus?" I nod agreeing."Yeah, let's go". I grab the keys and tell Killian "I'll drive this time". He shrugs and we head down to my car making sure to lock the door after us.

We drive towards Henry's junior high school and wait for him to come out. When he comes out he's with Violet and his friend Philip. Henry sees my yellow bug, turns to his friends and says goodbye, and runs towards the car. "Mom!" He gets in. "I'm starving! Can we go get something to eat?" he says before seeing Killian then saying "Oh hey Killian". Killian nods "Hello lad". Henry turns back to me and says "So? Chinese?" I shake my head "Not tonight kid. Pizza." I say nodding proudly as Henry smiles. "Homemade" I add and his smile vanishes. "C'mon mom. Can we please just pick up some food?" I pull out of the school's driveway and say "No Henry this is good pizza I swear! I worked hard on it. I promise it'll taste good". I notice him relax a bit so I add "Killian helped too". Henry finally smiles "Oh good". I roll my eyes and argue "So you actually think he cooks better than me?" Henry shrugs, not wanting to take a side. Killian laughs and points at me "I told you Swan!" he says teasing.

I drive home while Henry tells us about his day. I pull into my apartment's parking lot and we get out of the car. Killian comes up next to me and squeezes my hand gently as we walk. I look up at him and give him a small smile. None of us notice the car parked just far enough to look unsuspicious but close enough to see us. None of anticipated what would happen later that night. None of us would ever be the same.
