This was requested by ArchimedesTheDove. Two Scout fics might be coming up next. I am short as well, 4'12", so I know how this'll unfold. XD

"Solly!" you called, running around the base, "Solly- you promised!"

You hastily opened the door to the training room, where Soldier was as usual- training his butt off; this time, he was doing weights, having only his white wife-beater on. He turned to your direction and caught sight of your annoyed face under his helmet. He stayed silent, as if waiting for an explanation.
When the long silence confirmed your thoughts, you threw your head back and let out an exasperated groan.

"Have you forgotten?"

Silence. Again.

"The Winter Carnival's today!"

There was a change on Soldier's face before his mouth broke out into that familiar toothy grin. You stood there watching as he grabbed a towel to wipe the beads of sweat on his brow.

"Wait for me outside cupcake," Soldier said, "I'll be there in a moment."

"You better be," you blushed, grumbling quietly, just enough for Soldier to hear. "And I...am not your cupcake," you added quietly before walking away to the front porch.
Soldier gave off a low chuckle before putting on a thick red jacket, a long white scarf, and a knitted beanie you made for him two years ago. He cherished the beanie even though some of the stitches overlapped, the colors faded overtime, and the two sides were rather uneven. No matter, he'd say to himself over and over again.

She made it...just for me.

Stepping out of the training room, Soldier took notice of the heels he saw you wearing today. It was higher than usual, and considering your distaste of the footwear before, it all seemed weird to him. If only he had known that you'll change your mind, he would have gotten you a different gift- a gift he's certain you'll love. Now it was just fifty-fifty. Soldier bent down and took out a somewhat poorly wrapped box from his locker and gripped it tightly in his hands.

"Solly!" your voice rang once more, snapping the man out of his thoughts.

With a bigger frown, Soldier took a peek inside the box, where two brightly colored rubber shoes were placed, staring back at him mockingly. Sighing, he closed the lid once more and followed the sound of your voice outside.

Timeskip

"Solly look- cotton candy!" you squealed, pointing at the bright pink sweets. Of course, it wasn't just pink- there were tons of other colors to choose from. "I'll be right back," and with that, you were gone in a flash.
You came back soon afterwards, holding one in your hands- it had white, blue, and red on it. Soldier's eyes immediately lit up at the mix. You couldn't help but laugh- the man was just too adorable sometimes!

"Here," you said, picking out a small American flag, "it's available- so I got it for you."

"Aw, you shouldn't have cupcake," Soldier bashfully remarked, sticking the flag in his beanie afterwards.

"Let's go." you excitedly said, taking the man by the arm as you hurriedly checked out the other sights. In a span of one hour, you and Soldier have rode the teacup, which nearly made him throw up; the ferries wheel, which wasn't as bad as the others; and the petting zoo, which in your opinion was the best. You never knew that your man could be that gentle with the small cuties.

...your man...

It was hours later and the sun was setting once more. The wind got chilly and the visitors were starting to dissipate. You and the merc decided to go back to the base when you lost some distaste from each other.

"(Y/N)," Soldier called, looking for you. You always perk up and blush whenever he'd say your name. You tried following the sound of his voice, but these behemoths were like towers to you- even in heels! You then realized the extent of your height- or lack thereof.

"S-Solly?" you grew alarmed: The crowds were rushing to the exit and you felt suffocated. You decided to keep going when you missed a step and fell on your side, your ankle hurting as a heel broke.
You let out a hiss of pain and prayed that nobody saw that for that would've been really embarrassing!

You prepared to get up again when you felt an arm slide under your knees and behind your back. Without warning, you were hoisted up and pressed against a hard chest, one with a familiar scent lingering on it.

"Soldier!" you exclaimed, relief washing over you like a wave.

"Yes sir!" he responded enthusiastically, "is everything positive?"

You shook your head then gestured to the broken heel of your shoe. "I think I twisted my ankle..." you groaned, fiddling with the tassled ends of his white scarf.

A flash of concern was evident that very moment, but it was short lived and Soldier carried you to a nearby bench so you could rest and prevent your injured joint from further provocation.

"Solly?" you asked after some time, the awkward silence getting to you.

He turned to you and gave his usual nonchalant look. "Yes cupcake?"

You fingered the rims of your cap and bit your lip before looking back up at him.

"...How do you see me?"

Your question came out much quieter than intended and you wondered if the American even heard it.

"Um...I think you are a joy to America cupcake."

You blushed then chuckled, unaware of the man's growing redness. "You think I'm awesome even though I'm short?"

"Affirmative!" Soldier answered, having a rare smile on his face.
You couldn't help but squeal at the fact that your height meant nothing to Soldier. Short or tall- you were special to him either way. And that warmed your heart in more ways than one.

"I always thought...you liked tall girls," you said sheepishly, bringing your good footwear in view, "that's why I've been wearing heels- I thought you'd like me better. But I really don't like wearing them."

Now it was Soldier's turn to feel shocked in a pleasant way. "You've been doing this...for me cupcake?"

You nodded sheepishly and held his calloused hand in your much softer one. "I really, really like you Solly," you said with a bright twinkle in your eyes, "I admire you so much."

"L-like a general?" the other stuttered adorably.

You shook your head with a sigh. "Something much more."

Laughing heartily, Soldier embraced you tightly that you thought your spine would break; but you didn't have the heart to tell him-he was just too happy!

"Come here," he side gruffly, getting off the bench and bending down with his back faced towards you. "Climb on private, I can't have you walking till we arrive to Medic!"

You giggled as you climbed carefully and sat on his shoulders. Soldier took great care and was less rough than his usual self- he even let you grip his head as tight as you could when you felt as if you were about to fall. You sighed as snow started to fall, some of it powering your heads in a soft pile.
Your thoughts went back to the man you were on: how this boisterous, tough, and patriotic being can also be so passionate, caring, and full of surprises. It amazed you...the same way you amaze him.

"Solly?" you asked carefully.

All you heard was a soft grunt.

"I never want to wear really high heels anymore."

Silence then a chuckle.

"Boy, then you'll love my present for you cupcake."
