Chapter 5

I woke up and grinned at the memories of the day before. I'm officially a ninja! I did my normal morning routine and then ate breakfast which consisted of pancakes and juice. The only difference about today was my hair. I decided to tie it into a high ponytail even though my hair still reached my lower back.

I walked towards the bridge where we usually meet up. Today, we were going to do our first mission, so once we met up, we were going to the Hokage's office. When I arrived at the bridge, everyone was there, even Kakashi sensei.

"Hotaru, you're late," Kakashi sighed and I apologized quickly.

"Sorry, I took too much time coming here. I'll be on time tomorrow." I said monotonously.

We walked over to the Hokage's office and I felt eyes glued to me. I looked around at my comrades to see them staring at me. I tilted my head in confusion.

"What?" I asked and Naruto and Sakura pointed at my hair.

"Hotaru, I have always seen your hair tied up in buns and braids, this is new," Naruto said and examined my straight, light blue hair.

"Yeah, your hair is so nice! It's shiny, and soft and so pretty!" Sakura squealed and started touching my hair. I blushed and tried to ignore their comments, but deep down I felt giddy. The two of them didn't know about my hair's powers, so it's nice to get a compliment that doesn't have to do with my powers every once in a while.

When we arrived, everyone was pretty enthusiastic about getting our first mission, that is until the Old Man said it was D ranked and we would be capturing a cat that ran away. Even with Naruto's complaints, we got the job done and finished other chores for the village.

-time skip to two weeks later-

We were given the mission of capturing a cat, the same cat we've been retrieving for the past two weeks. Naruto was getting sick and tired of it, and honestly, so was I. We complained about it to Kakashi-sensei, even Sasuke wanted a new mission that was more challenging.

We were given a C rank mission to escort a bridge builder back to the land of waves. The man's name was Tazuna, and he was pretty cranky. He complained about being escorted by Genin, but Kakashi assured him he was safe since he was a Jonin. On our way to the land of waves, we were attacked by some chunin nin. One of them threw chains over Kakashi sensei and squashed him to death. Sakura started silently crying.

"Guys, protect Tazuna!" I yelled, so Sakura and Naruto went over to him, kunai in hand. One of the chunin tried throwing the chains over me, but my hair grabbed it and wrapped it around a tree instead, tying him to the piece of wood.

The other chunin was fighting Sasuke. Naruto ran over to assist him and got cut. He was infected with poison so I told him to stay still as I quickly healed his hand. Afterwards, I returned to Sasuke and started fighting the other nin. Before we defeated him, Kakashi jumped in and defeated him.

After questioning them and Tazuna, we found out that the land of waves is under the influence of Gatō and the bridge Tazuna was building would free people, which is why these ninja were after him. We were going to return to the Leaf, but Naruto stuck a kunai in his hand and vowed to not be a burden. So, I healed up his wound before he lost too much blood and continued on our journey.

While at a forest, we were interrupted by Zabuza, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. My eyes widened. We were no match for this shinobi.

"Stay back!" Kakashi commanded and we all surrounded Tazuna to protect him. Kakashi and Zabuza engaged in a full on fight, and at one point, Zabuza sliced him, cutting him in half completely. My eyes widened and I stepped up, ready to engage in battle until I realized it was a clone and Kakashi was still alive. They continued fighting until Zabuza kicked sensei down to the water and creating water prison jutsu, trapping Kakashi in an unbreakable bubble of water.

"Kakashi-sensei!" I yelled frantically. Zabuza faced us with the full intention of killing us. Unexpectedly, Naruto ran towards Zabuza, and got kicked back, but summoned many shadow clones to fight him. Sasuke ran into the battle too and got sliced. I needed to get into this battle, and now.

"Sakura, stay back and protect Tazuna!" I shouted and ran towards my comrades. I stood by Sasuke. "Stay still, I'm going to heal you." He grunted, but let me heal him. Once he was okay to stand, we stood up and backed up Naruto who's clones had been defeated. While Naruto was being pushed back by Zabuza's blow, he took out a demon wind shuriken from his backpack and tossed it to Sasuke. His eyes widened and I realized their plan. I smirked, they were finally working together. I might as well help with my jutsu.

Sasuke threw the Shuriken at Zabuza and he deflected it easily. Suddenly, the shuriken transformed into Naruto and threw a kunai at Zabuza who held the water prison jutsu. In order for him to dodge, he let go of the prison, releasing Kakashi. While this was happening, I made hand signs.

"Star Style: Giant Star Shuriken Jutsu!" I yelled and launched my jutsu at the clone, defeating it easily. Kakashi and Zabuza continued their fight. Kakashi used his sharingan to copy our enemy's jutsu, and soon was able to knock him out, but before he could finish him, an anbu from the mist killed him with needles.

"I need to eliminate his body," the boy said and took Zabuza's body with him. He looked about our age, he must be an exceptional ninja if he was in the anbu at such a young age. Since we were free from our opponent, we made our way back to Tazuna's home.
