Not So Bad After All
Book One
Chapter Six
Party- Part Two
Jayden's POV
__________________I shook my head and downed another drink, letting the alcohol burn its way down my throat. Maybe if I drank enough, I'd forget how good she felt against me. Maybe I'd forget how her skin tasted, how she fucking shivered when I touched her.
I slammed the empty cup down on the counter and ran a hand through my hair, frustrated.
This was Rose. The girl I've spent years going back and forth with. The girl who always had a smart-ass remark, who rolled her eyes at me more times than I could count. The girl who hated me.
So why the fuck did she let me touch her like that? And why the fuck did I want to do it again?
I needed a distraction.
Looking around, I spotted a few familiar faces—girls who would be more than happy to help me forget whatever the hell just happened. The blonde from earlier was nowhere in sight, but that didn't matter. There were plenty of other options.
Alexis, a girl who went to our school last year but graduated, caught my eye. Hispanic, beautiful bouncy curls that framed her face and a body that no doubt caught a lot of attention. It caught mine.
She was already looking at me, her lips curling into a knowing smirk as she sipped from her cup.
Perfect.
I pushed off the counter and made my way toward her, slipping back into the role I knew best. I wasn't about to let Rose be the reason I didn't get none tonight.
As I approached Alexis, she leaned against the kitchen island, swirling the liquid in her cup with a teasing smile. She knew exactly why I was coming over, and she was clearly ready for whatever I had in mind.
"Hey Jayden," she purred, tilting her head as she looked up at me. "You looked a little... distracted over there."
I smirked, sliding a hand onto her waist like it was second nature. "Just enjoying the view," I said smoothly, my voice laced with confidence. I wasn't about to let her—or anyone else—know that the reason I was distracted was Rose.
She giggled and leaned in, pressing her body against mine. "Well, let me help with that."
That was all the invitation I needed. I slipped an arm around her waist, my hand resting just above the curve of her ass as I pulled her even closer. Her perfume was sweet and strong, but it didn't erase the lingering scent of Rose's skin from my memory. Fuck.
I needed to get her out of my head.
"You wanna take this somewhere else?" I murmured after almost an hour of talking, my lips barely brushing the shell of her ear. I'm not in the mood for games anymore—I need a distraction, and I need it now.
Alexis bit her lip, considering, then nodded. "Lead the way."
I grabbed her hand and started toward the stairs, but just as we reached the bottom step, my eyes flickered across the room—and landed on her.
Rose.
She was standing near the back door with Sky, her head thrown back in laughter, her brown eyes sparkling under the dim party lights. Her smile was so wide, so carefree, like she wasn't even thinking about what just happened between us. Like she hadn't just been grinding on me like she wanted me.
Something about that pissed me off.
I should've been relieved that she didn't care. I should've been glad that whatever that moment was, it was already forgotten.
