Sophie and Sally's Apartment

Sophie Reese

"Everything."

My throat tightened, my pulse quickened and deep inside me was this prickling heat that radiated out and into my skin, making it ache. The intensity of it scared me, and I thought about walking away, but I couldn't.

"I need to go back to my apartment," I said, flustered.

His half-lidded eyes, heavy with lust, beheld me with unholy reverence. He licked his lips and smiled wolfishly at me like he wanted to eat me.

"Then, I will come with you," he replied, offering his hand.

"Whatever questions I have, I can ask Sally," I replied stiffly.

Casper dropped his hand, unable to hide the disappointment on his face. Then, with a heavy breath, he sighed, "I wish you would trust me. There isn't anyone who cares more for you than I do."

"That's not possible. We barely know each other," I said.

"Then let me prove it. I will give you anything that your heart desires," Casper said. "I'll give you money for your community centre-"

"Is that why you saved the community centre? Did you think that I could be brought?" I replied, feeling my temper start to flare.

Casper pressed his lips into a thin line and shook his head. I watched the muscles in his beautiful jawline tense as he carefully thought about what to say that next.

"Sophie," he began, "The community centre was important to you, so I had to save it."

"You brought it to manipulate me," I replied.

"Baby, please," he pleaded.

My eyes hardened as I replied icily, "I'm not your 'baby'."

I turned on my heel and began to walk back to the apartment. I heard his footsteps close behind me. I spun around and snapped, "Quit following me!"

"I can't, Sophie," he replied.

"Look, buddy. If you take one more step towards me, I will make you regret it."

He ignored my warning and reached out a hand to touch me.

This was a big mistake. I raised my arms and shoved at him hard with the flats of both my palms.

I meant it to be a firm push that would send him stumbling back a few steps, but it wasn't. Instead, to my shock and surprise, my push sent him flying into the opposite wall like a human cannonball.

His body smashed into the brick wall sending an explosion of dust and chunks of brick into the air. When the dust cleared, I saw him embedded like a cartoon character in the brickwork.
