Tick...tock...tick...tock...
The rhythmic ticking of a clock permeated my unconscious. I was warm... too warm. Damn, it felt like I was being roasted inside an oven... there were too many blankets on top of me!
I shoved and kicked the blankets away from me and crawled to the cool side of the mattress. Laying there against the cold cotton sheets, I stared up at the ceiling. My head was swimming with fragments of memories that made little sense to me.
Where was I?
What was I doing here?
This room was unfamiliar and strange. It kind of reminded me of a historical house with its fancy antique furniture and old paintings. I sat up in bed feeling out of place in all this finery. How the heck, did scruffy little old me end up in a classy place like this?
Glancing around the room for further clues, I noticed that there was an armchair that had been positioned next to the bed. Laying on the chair was a crumpled up blanket and an open book - had someone been sitting there, watching me?
I picked up the blanket and breathed in the scent. It was earthy and warm - it smelt of him.
He had been sitting in this chair, watching over me, waiting for me to wake up... but why?
My head was still hazy. The last clear memory I had was of the lodge and Sally. She was on the floor crying as that man stood over her yelling. That man, his name was Luc and he was Casper's brother. I didn't like him - I couldn't remember exactly why, but I didn't like him...
