Sally and Sophie's Apartment

Sophie Reese

The rest of the evening passed in a have and by the end of it, I found myself alone in an empty apartment. My bedroom window had been fixed. The final rent paid. My front door key had been removed from my favorite keychain and placed in a white envelope addressed to the landlord. My home was now a cold characterless shell with no hint that myself or Sally had ever occupied it.

All trace of my human life was gone. It had been packaged up and taken away to some unknown storage location. This was the second time I had lost my home... and it hurt just as much as the first time.

Drifting around the empty rooms I wondered what would happen next to me. Casper wanted me to marry him. Sally wanted me to run away. And as for what I wanted - I had no idea.

Casper's wedding proposal hadn't sunk in yet. My mind was already bursting with blood, death, hunger and, if I was being honest with myself, sex.

It was shameless. I couldn't get his body out of my head. I kept recalling the contours of his muscles and the warmth of his skin against my fingertips. The recollection was intoxicating and distracting as hell. Every time I passed by him or he came into view, I just wanted to jump him.

It was so embarrassing - I've never had those kinds of feelings towards anyone before. I couldn't understand what was wrong with me. I should be fantasizing about a beautiful wedding with my fairytale prince, but all I kept thinking about was his body and his blood.

I shook my head. This was no time for fantasizing. Sally had warned me not to fall for him, it would only make it harder for me to leave him when the time came. I needed to keep my distance and keep my guard up. I needed to be the sensible level headed woman my Grandmother always wanted me to be instead of the impulsive passionate idiot that I always ended up being.

With a sigh, I walked out into the hallway. In a few hours, it would be morning and I would be far from this place. Nico and Casper were vague about the precise location of the mountain lodge. Sally had tried pushing Nico for an exact geographic area but the best she got out of him was 'it's a three-hour drive south west of here'.

I hated long car journeys - although a thought kept crossing my mind... maybe Casper would sit next to me. My heart beat started to accelerate and a slow-burning heat began prickling over my skin.

Oh god, I was turning vampire pervert.

A sudden bang from outside disturbed my thinking and pulled me back into the real world. It sounded like someone had slammed the foyer door shut and the din of it had echoed up the stairs. I froze and heard a voice out in the corridor. It was Nico.

"Would you just wait!"

Casper's voice followed in a sharp reply, "No, you are not doing that."

"We have no choice," Nico pleaded.
