Carrie stood with her arms resting on the fence, watching as he made another tackle. This was a big game, as they were playing their rival school, the wildcats. The schools had been going back and forth for years for first place in their division. And if Harrison's team won, they would be qualified for playoffs.

Her best friend Julia stood next to her asking, "what was that?" as the ref picked up a flag.

"What!?" Carrie yelled along with the rest of the crowd. She leaned back, slapping the fence. "That's dumb."

"What'd they call?"

"They called Harrison for encroachment. He didn't jump the line."

Her and Julia stood right on the 40 yard line, which happened to be the line of scrimmage. Carrie could see when the ball was snapped. And Harrison sure as hell didn't jump the line early.

She groaned as they moved the offense up 15 yards so they were now in field goal range. The entire week leading up to the game, Harrison worked hard to prepare her for all the penalties she would see and what they were. He'd also told her to stay calm. A lot of high school refs weren't that good and she was going to see penalties that should be called, or the bullshit calls.

The center snapped the ball as Harrison dropped back in coverage. Near the back of the end zone, the opposing teams tight end was wide open. The quarterback threw the ball, it nearing the tight end as Harrison's teammate jumped up.

The safety swatted the ball away as he landed as well as the tight end. Carrie cussed as two refs threw out a flag. They called the safety for pass interference. "He didn't even touch him," Julia said from beside her.

"I know, this is frustrating."

From behind where they were, the entire student section stood up and shouted, "I'M BLIND AND I'M DEAF AND I WANNA BE A REF!"

Carrie and Julia both covered their mouths as they laughed. Getting herself together again, she watched as the other offense was moved to the one yard line.

Harrison's team stacked the line of scrimmage as the other quarterback handed the ball off to the running back. He was immediately stopped by Harrison. The ball bounced off the ground and into Harrison's friend Mark's hands.

Mark ran down to the other end zone, starting a touchdown dance as he crossed the goal line. She cheered along with the rest of the crowd as they were now ahead by 4.

After the game, she laughed as her classmates booed the refs while they ran into the locker room. They blew a few more calls, almost costing Harrison's team the game. But they pulled through, and Carrie was glad.

She waited patiently for him to come out from the locker room. Seeing him walking towards her car, Carrie reached across and unlocked the passenger side door. "Damn it," she muttered as she missed the lock and ended up hitting her side off the center console. "This is why I want a new car," she muttered.

Harrison opened the door, laughing at her sprawled out body. "Stop it! This is why I want a new car! One with power locks!"

But he continued to simply laugh at her. "I happen to really like this car."

Carrie moved back over to her side as he pulled the seat up and threw his football bag in the back. "I know you like it because you love classic cars."

"Can I drive home?"

"No!"

"Why not?"
