Harrison's team made it to the state championship game in Houston. It fell on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Carrie contemplated driving down the night before or the morning of. But Julia and Marilou both wanted to go down the night before and were able to convince Carrie to split a hotel room with them.

"Are we almost there?"

"Yes."

"How much longer?"

She looked down at the odometer, seeing how many miles they'd already covered. "30 more miles."

Julia groaned, leaning her head back against the seat. "It's gonna be probably another hour since we have to drive through Houston."

This time, Marilou groaned as well. Carrie had begged her mom to borrow her SUV, since driving through traffic with a stick would be a huge pain in the ass.

"You guys aren't even driving."

"But you usually drive fast," Julia challenged from the backseat.

That statement was true. Carrie had a knack for speeding. She grimaced, seeing the needle stuck at 80. "Well, I'm doing 80 in a 65mph limit."

"Carrie!"

"Shit!" She said, seeing what Marilou was pointing at. Just a bit in front of them, a police car was sitting in the median. They were coming up on the cop too fast, not allowing her enough time to get the speed back down to 65.

Carrie tapped the breaks just a bit as they passed the cop, hoping to get down to 75. After passing the cop, the three girls were glued to the mirrors.

"Is he coming?" She asked, passing another car.

"No-"

"Oh shit he is!"

Sure enough the cop pulled out and was already gaining on them. "F**k," Carrie muttered under her breath as the cop turned on his lights behind them.

She switched back into the right lane, and over to the edge of the highway. Slowing to a stop, Julia asked, "should I try to flirt with him?"

She got a stern 'no' from both Carrie and Marilou. "You might end up making my ticket worse."

Cussing once again under her breath, she watched in the side mirror as the cop approached. How did I miss this one? She thought to herself. Carrie was very good at spotting cops, but apparently not today.

There was a knock on her window. She rolled the window down. "Hello sir."

"Hello ladies. Do you know why I pulled you over?"

Carrie nodded. "I was speeding."

"Can I have your name please?" He asked, pulling a small note pad from his coat pocket.

"Carrie Fisher."

"Well Miss Fisher, do you know you were doing 80?"

"Yes."

"Can I see your drivers license and vehicle registration?"

She provided him with the documents, watching in her mirror as he walked back to his car. "How bad do you think it's going to be?" Marilou asked.

"Bad."

The officer came back to her window and handed her the documents. "Miss Fisher, with your driving record of no violations, I'm going to let you go with a warning. Be careful."

"Thank you sir! I really appreciate it!"

He nodded before walking back to his car. Carrie waited for him to get in before getting back on the highway. "That was close."
