Arzaya

[1 week after]

"Are you really sure about this?"

Shay looked at me with a hopeful gaze as I zipped the luggage securely.

I nodded. "Yeah, I won't stay for long. It depends on how fast I recover. I already talked to the GM about it. They'll put me on-leave."

My best friend sighed before rubbing my back. "Well, you do need it."

I really do.

It was about time I focused on myself and help myself recover from all the things that happened. I've decided that I ought to see a psychiatrist for the time I'd be away.

I couldn't stay here any longer, but I'd be back. I just need time and space to be on track again and hopefully, by the time I get back, California would feel like home again.

For now, it was still a nightmare I had to wake up from.

"Shay," I looked at her gratefully. "Thanks for letting me stay."

She smiled and helped me with my bags. "You haven't even told me where you're going."

"I won't be far," I reassured. "Just going to stay with my mom's parents in London. You remember Nana Jackie?"

Shay's eyes widened. "What?" she whined. "I thought you're only going out-of-state! Arzaya!"

I smiled at her concern. "I knew you were going to react that way if I told you."

"Well," she crossed her arms. "Do you think I can live a day without talking to my best friend?"

"We can FaceTime everyday!" I suggested. "And I won't be there for long, I promise. I'll come back as soon as I'm fixed back to the old me."

She pulled me into a hug. "I'm gonna miss you."

I felt touched. "I'll miss you too, Shay."

I owe her my life.

I didn't know how I deserved someone like her but I was definitely grateful. All these years, Shay had always been the one who saved me from everything that I had to go through and she only ever wanted to help me. She was the sister I dreamed of and I wish someday I'd be able to return that. It was about time I did something for her.

"Shay?" I pulled away. "Thank you for everything."

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Come on, you know you're a sister to me."

"And you to me," I told her. "I don't know what would have happened if you guys didn't find me that night."

"You don't know how driven Steph was when I told him something was wrong."

I pulled a weak smile at the mention of his name.

Shay noticed that and caressed my arm. "He truly loves you."
