Chapter 9: Party

Day P.O.V.

June's two weeks ended today. Tonight I'm going to a party at someone's house that Kaede got us all invited to.

I decide that I should dress a bit nicer than my sweats and put some jeans on. Eden and I ride to the party together.

"Don't drink Eden. I'm not going to cover for you if you do I swear." I say.

"I'm not an idiot Daniel. I'll probably just find Tess and then leave within the hour."

"Ooh. Eden."

"That is not what I meant."

"Sure." I say.

I park my car far enough away that it will be safe from the crazy people. Eden and I walk the rest of the way.

I walk in horrified to see that everyone is already drunk. I'm not stupid enough to drink any of that.

June is standing awkwardly by a guy from our grade. 'Help me' she mouths. The guy touches her arm. It makes my stomach twist. No guy should touch her.

I walk over quickly and say hi to June.

"Hey Day." Brady says. I give him a death glare. "Whoah. I didn't realize you two were dating. Calm down."

"We aren't dating." June says. Sadly. Wait what? I definitely like her.

"Then why are you being so possessive man?" Brady asks.

"Maybe it's because I've met you before. And I don't trust you. Mess around with whatever girl you want. But she's off limits to you." He backs off.

"Don't have to go crazy." He mumbles.

"Day I appreciate your help but you didn't have to say all that. I can handle myself."

"I'm sorry June. I just saw him talking to you and got mad. He's a bad person."

"And you're not?"

"What?"

"You aren't exactly a role model either Day."

"That's different. He's a player."

"Not to mention prettier than you." June mumbles. That stings.

"What?"

"I'm kidding Day. He's most certainly not attractive to me. Happy?"

"Would it be weird for me to say yes?" I ask.

The music gets turned up so we can no longer hear each other. June drags me upstairs and we sit on a couch in a sort of living room.

"I don't know why I come to these. I'd much rather spend my Friday nights with you watching a movie or just hanging out." June says.

"Then why don't you?"

"I thought you liked this." She says sheepishly. I roll my eyes.

"I like being with you a thousand times more. Your my best friend June. I know it sounds weird considering we didn't meet a really long one ago but it's the truth."

"You're my best friend too." She says.

"Glad to hear it." I say standing up.

"What're you doing?"

"We," I say taking her hand to pull her up. "Are going to my house and we're going to watch a movie, or just hang out." She rolls her eyes with a smile.

"You may not be the best person but you're the best friend I ever could've asked for. Thanks for protecting me." It's no problem. It seems it's become my instinct. She pulls me into a tight hug. I force myself to let go a few seconds later. June and I drive to my house.

After we both get there we walk into the theater room. Tess and Eden seem to be making out in there. June and I scream simultaneously and run away.

"Want to go in my room instead?" I ask laughing as we stop in the hallway. She nods.

I open the closet we keep our board games and movies in. June and I decide to watch Cinderella.

I mean June picked it but it's not like I hate the movie or anything.

June and I lay together in my bed each cuddled up in fuzzy blankets. She probably has like five but I'm only using two.

Within twenty minutes June is asleep. It takes all my strength not to wrap my arms around her and fall asleep too. She would get in trouble.

I gather her up into my arms and admire the way it feels to be holding her like this, protecting her. 

I walk her to the driveway before realizing that she brought her car here. I'll Uber back I guess.

I put her in the passenger seat and drive to her house. It's good she told me combination for the garage connected to the house. I carry her inside and set her in bed covering her up with blankets.

I decide I should leave her a note

Hey June, you fell asleep watching the movie so I brought you here. Sweet dreams

-Day

I leave the note on her bathroom counter so Metias won't see it but she will when she goes in there tomorrow morning. Or I guess later this morning.

My Uber is here. I run outside and get in the car quietly.

After what seems like about ten minutes I get to my house and thank the driver before running inside. Considering the clothes I'm wearing, a black shirt with dark blue jeans neither of which were expensive, he probably thinks it's more likely I'm trying to rob this place than that I live here.

Eden and Tess are cuddled up on the couch in the living room and look as if they are both asleep. Tess' parents must not care if she goes home tonight.

"Gross get off of each other." I say as I sit down on the recliner. This isn't technically our living room. There's another one my parents use that's much more fancy but I never cared for it. This is Eden and my old playroom that we converted into a living room.

"Oh, and what were you doing with June in your bedroom?" Tess asks smirking.

"Watching Cinderella." I say. Tess and Eden laugh.

"You aren't even dating and she's already got you whipped." Eden says. I roll my eyes.

"It's just a kid movie."

"She fell asleep during it and instead of waking her up like a normal person would you picked her up and took her home." Tess teases.

"Whatever." I say but in reality I don't know if they're wrong or not.
