Chapter 24: Love?

Day
A month later

I'm seventeen now. It's been a great month so far.

Today is just another regular school day. I walk into my second class of the day same as always and sit by Pascao.

"What's up Day?" Pascao asks awkwardly.

"Nothing." I say. "You do anything last weekend?"

"Not really. You?"

"No." The bells rings as I say it.

This is my science class. Chemistry. We are running a lab today and Pascao and I are partners.

We walk back into the lab after getting instructions.

"Don't set my hair on fire this time Pascao." I say.

"I'm sorry, okay?" He says laughing. "It was barely singed."

June and I walk into the lunchroom together. I have learned a lot over the past month. One of the things being that I'm definitely in love with June.

If only I had the courage to tell her. I've been trying to for weeks. Something always gets in the way.

June and I sit in our usual spots together. Tess and Eden are late. Wonder why.

Tess walks in five minutes later looking upset.

"Hey Tess." Kaede says smirking. "What's up?"

"I don't know where to go." She says. "I never should've trusted him. Can I talk to you Kaede?"

"Yeah. Of course." They both leave the cafeteria.

"So what's up June?" I ask.

"The ceiling." She says.

"What do you think happened to Tess?"

"Ask your brother." June points to Eden sitting at another table by himself. So that's where he went. I take June by the hand and lead her to Eden's newfound table.

"What's wrong Eden?" June asks as we sit across from him.

"I messed up." He says.

"How." I ask.

"Well Tess told me something. A secret. And I got mad at her and lashed out. She dumped me."

"Oh." I say. "That really sucks. Is there anything we can do?"

"No Daniel. Just go back to your perfect life."

"I'm sorry Eden." June says as she stands up pulling me back to our table with her. Pascao is sitting there on his phone.

"Sorry Pascao." I say as we sit back down.

Kaede

I follow Tess into the empty classroom.

"Kaede." She says. "My parents have stopped wanting me to live with them. I was living at Eden and Day's house but due to recent developments I no longer feel comfortable there. Eden and I broke up by the way."

I've always had a small crush on Tess. I assumed her and Eden would stay together. Guess not.

"You can live at my place. My parents won't mind if they know your story. Why did you break up?"

"He lashed out at me." She says.

"Why?"

"I told him that I'm bi." She says running her hand through her hair. She told me last week. "He was mad I hadn't told him before."
