That morning everyone went their separate ways. Dean was still sleeping and Rider had just taken over driving. Greg was tired, though he'd never admit it. "Greg, babe, you can go to sleep if you want. Its not gonna bother me." Her smile was contagious. A smile crept across his face as Greg closed his eyes. "I love you. If you get too tired wake me up." Greg's words were slowed and soon his snores filled the car. "Okay honey. You sleep now." Rider whispered. By the time they got home, Dean was driving. His father and mom were passed out in the backseat, snoring away. He managed to maneuver around the bump in the driveway, while his parents still sleep away. Dean had taken to calling Rider, mom, because he felt like it. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was marrying his dad, no. He just felt she was more maternal than his real mom. "Mom, pops. We're home." He shook his dad when he spoke. "I'm up Dean." Greg groaned. "I can get mom off you , so you can get out of the car." "Thank you son." Dean carefully picked up Rider's body and watched his father slither out of the car. "In the house." "When?" "Preferably before the neighbours think we killed someone." Dean smiled at his father's seriousness. Greg opened the door and held it open. He watched as his son walked in with his fiancée. "Put Lola on the couch." Greg shut the door. "Why do you do that?" "Do what?" "Call mom Lola, when everyone else calls her Rider?" Dean took a seat on the loveseat. Greg sat on the edge of the coffee table, so he was level to his son's eyes. "Its a tradition I started right here on this couch. We were cuddled up during a storm and I decided I was going to call her Lola instead of Rider." "Oh, dad?" "Yes." "I just wanted to say I love you and thank you for letting me stay here." "I love you too and don't worry I would've jumped all over the chance for you to stay with me." "Thanks dad." "For what?" "For not giving up on us having a working relationship." "Dean, its my job as your father to never give up on you. I've always been here for you whether you've known it or not. I never left." "Even in Dallas?" "Even in Dallas. I was always there. Sometimes in person, other times in spirit." "Dean, please tell me you aren't going to start braiding your dad's hair?" Rider chuckled from her spot on the couch. "Look who decides to grace us with her elegant voice." Greg teased. "Hey, I started getting sleepy eyed twenty minutes from home." "Mom's right." Dean smirked. This is what he missed out on just because his mom didn't want to give his dad a second chance. "Presents." Greg grabbed a big box and handed it to Dean. After twenty years of careful unwrapping, Dean opened the box. It was something Greg had been saving since Dean was a child. He watched as he flipped through the pages. "Dad, what is it?" Dean was at a loss for words. Rider knew what it was and a smile broke across her face. "Its a book I was making when you were little. Its all pictures of you." "And mom!" Greg's head snapped towards the book. Sure enough, Rider was in a picture of Dean at the park. She was in a Stone Temple Pilots hoodie and holey black jeans. Her hair was red and long. That was strange to see next to her short green hair. "Wow, I never noticed that until now." Greg also noticed how gaunt she looked. Actually, gaunt didn't even begin to describe it. That must have been around the time she overdosed. Before they could get into anymore presents, Rider's phone rang. "Hello?" Her voice was scratchy. "Its Spike. I guess Oli isn't allowed to drink vodka shots anymore." "No shit. What the hell is wrong with you?! Oli has never been allowed to drink vodka shots." "Oh, I forgot that." "Yeah, you jackass." "Well, I need some help over here." "Sorry I'm busy with my family." "Fine. Looks like I'm calling mom again!" "Have fun." Rider slid her phone back in her pocket. "Here's your present from me." Greg handed her a small box. "Here. Merry Christmas." Dean studied his mom as she opened the present. "A new hat! Yay!" Dean slid a big box to Greg. "This is from me and mom. She picked out the colours and I picked out the inside stuff." Greg ripped the box open and his jaw dropped. It was a portrait of him, Rider and Dean done by Jim Root of Slipknot. "How?" Greg managed to stumble out. "I got high one time with Paul and he gave me his phone number. I pulled a couple strings and got this." Rider explained. "Thank you baby. Dean, I thank you too." "We love you and wanted to show you." Dean says. The rest of the day was happy for everyone.
