It was approximately

Ten o'clock at night

When she came to me.

I was minutes away from sleep

When the choked sobs

And rapping on the door

Snapped me back to reality.

I shuffled my feet slowly

Unlocking the door

To my small yet comfortable apartment

And found her there

Crying into one hand

And clutching her arm with the other.

"Jessa."

I pulled her into a tight hug

Stroking her hair

And trying to stop her tears from escaping.

"Come in

And tell me everything."

I led her into the living room

And sat directly across from her

On one side of the love seat.

"Now tell me;

What happened?"

Small sobs were forming

In the back of her throat

As she kept her eyes

Trained on her lap.

The room was dark

The only source of light

Was coming from a small lamp

In the far corner of the room.

"Tell me."

She paused

Lifting her head up slightly

So that I could see

Her beautiful green eyes.

"He hit me."
