"Tell me a story."

She rested her head

On my shoulder

And even though I knew

It was a gesture of friendship

Sparks traveled up my spine

Like fireworks igniting

In my bones.

"About what?"

She shrugged.

"Anything

Just make it up."

I thought for a moment

And knew just the story to tell.

The story of us.

"Once upon a time

There was a girl

Who didn't love herself

So she accepted the love

She thought she deserved.

She believed the lies

And suffered the beatings

And told herself

That he loved her.

He really really loved her.

You see

There's another boy here as well

And his love for her was pure.

It originated from his heart

But he couldn't quite manage

To get it to travel to his lips.

And so he keeps it hidden

Inside a cloud of mysteries

Floating along in a sky

Full of lonely hearts.

This girl loves the boy too

But not in the way

That he loves her

And every night

He stays awake

Until the early hours

Thinking about her

And wishing

That those words

Would reach his lips."
