We fell asleep
Early that morning
And I remember
The slow rise and fall
Of her chest
As my arms entangled her.
We were a mess of
White sheets
And tangled legs
And I wouldn't change a thing
About the way we fell asleep.
I dreamt of her and I
Growing old together
Because love
Has no age limit.
I would hold her frail body
In my own weak arms
And we would dance
With no music
Throughout the whole night
While she wore her knee socks
And I wore my suspenders.
I would still be hers
And she would still be mine
As long as she let me.
And when we woke up
In the late afternoon
Her hair was tangled
And her breathing slow and light
And I wouldn't change a thing
About the way we woke up either.
